In Chapter 3 ofBlack Myth: Wukong, you will encounter a total of four Captain bosses after being sent to the Pagoda Realm. While two of these bosses are optional, defeating Captain Kalpa-Wave is required to progress the story.
Captain Kalpa-Wave is one of the main bosses that you will encounter in the latter half of Chapter 3. It recklessly stomps on the Destined One with its large human legs up close and uses Blood Magic for ranged attacks. The boss can be a fairly difficult fight for you if you’re not used to his moveset.
How To Find Captain Kalpa-Wave
Captain Kalpa-Wave will beguarding the entrance to theNew Thunderclap Temple. To reach this boss, you’ll have to start from theRoad of Longevity Shrinein theValley of Ecstasy region.
From there, you’ll progress forward until you come across asmall pathway leading to a large templein the distance. Heading towards the temple will allow you tocome across a mass of blood and veins, with astar-like orange figure in the middleright outside the entrance to the temple.
When you approach it, all the blood and veins will collect together and Captain Kalpa-Wave will be summoned. You can thenfight the boss to gain entry to the New Thunderclap Temple.
Captain Kalpa-Wave Attacks
Captain Kalpa-Wave shares some similarities with theGore-Eye Daoist, an optional boss that you may encounter in Chapter 2, due to theuse of Blood Magic.
Some of its attacks will splatter blood on the ground, which will damage the Destined One if he steps on it, so you’ll have to watch your feet.
How To Avoid
Jumping Stomp
The boss will do asmall jump and then stomp the groundwith both of its feet on landing.
Avoid this attack bydodging exactly when the boss is about to land.
Bloody Roar
Captain Kalpa-Waveunleashes a roar, knocking the Destined One down if it’s too close. The roar will also summonseveral blood projectilesthat will attack you. The blood projectiles will also collect on the ground right where you’re standing, and summon a small mass of blood and veins.
you may spot this attack bywatching one of its legs, which it will lightly stomp on the ground as it unleashes the roar. The roar itself has a very short range and the real threat is the blood projectiles that come afterwards.
You can use theStaff Spin to deflect most of these blood projectiles, but will have to dodge when the blood starts to puddle beneath your feet.
Bloody Jumps
The boss willjump three times, stomping the ground on landing and sending out blood projectiles with each jump. These projectiles will also splatter blood on the ground.
For the third jump, Captain Kalpa-Wave will go a lot higher into the air, releasing a huge shockwave of blood on landing. This move will alsoremove all the blood that has been splattered on the ground.
The best way to deal with this attack is tocreate some distance after the first jump and use the Spinning Staffto deflect the blood projectiles from a distance.
For the third jump, dodge when the boss is about to land, and you’ll be able toavoid the shockwave.
Retreat Into Blood Projectiles
Captain Kalpa-Wave willjump to its back, creating some distance between itself and the Destined One. After that, the boss will releaseblood projectiles from its wingsmultiple times.
you may either choose tododge as the blood projectiles are about to hitoruse the Spinning Staff abilityto deflect all the blood projectiles.
One Two Kicks
The boss willthrow a kick with each of his legs. There will be a slight delay after the first kick, during which the boss will try to regain balance.
This attack isincredibly slowand easy toavoid by dodging. The attack is also very linear, so you can also avoid it by moving out of the way.
Kneeling Blood Projectiles
The boss willkneel on one of its legs, sending out multiple blood projectiles that will summon a mass of blood on the ground right where they connect with the Destined One.
Using Spinning Staff to deflect these projectiles isn’t recommended. You’ll have tododge exactly when the blood projectiles are about to hit you. Dodging in any direction will get you out of the summoned mass of blood’s range.
Blood Shower
While standing, Captain Kalpa-Wave willunleash multiple blood projectiles, that will rain down on the Destined One all at once. These projectiles will also leave blood on the ground.
You can easily deflect all of these projectiles by using the Spinning Staff. Be sure tododge right after deflecting all of the projectiles, otherwise you’ll get damaged because the blood will be pooling beneath your feet even after successful deflections.
Three Stomps
The boss will stomp the ground with one of its feet. There will be a total of three stomps, each coming out after a short delay. Sometimes, the stomps will also generate blood projectiles.
The attack is easy to avoid by dodging and can also beavoided by sprinting away from Captain Kalpa-Wavewhile it’s executing this attack.
How To Defeat Captain Kalpa-Wave
While Captain Kalpa-Wave may look intimidating and powerful, it is fairly easy to defeat it as most of itsattacks up close are easy to avoidand don’t deal a lot of damage if you get hit by it.
Use theImmobilizespell whenever it’s available to deal a big chunk of damage. Swap out the Rock Solid spell forCloud Step, as Cloud Step can be used toavoid most of the projectile attacksvery easily while also giving you an opportunity to attack the boss.

Captain Kalpa-Wavestaggers quite easily. A couple offully charged Heavy Smash attacksare all that it takes to knock the boss to the ground. You can alsouse Smash Stance’s Varied Combosto utilize the focus points to deal a ton of damage to the boss.
