Dead Rising Deluxe Remasterhas many fascinating characters, ranging from story-specific characters to Survivors stranded in the Willamette Parkview Mall to Psychopaths who have lost their nerve and are thirsty for blood and chaos. These make for unique encounters and experiences throughout the 72-hour period in which Frank West is stuck in the outbreak, searching for information.

One such character is none other than Carlito Keyes, a character you meet right from the jump of the outbreak, who will remain a constant thorn in Frank’s side throughout the entirety of his stay. And, as expected, you will have to battle him a few times, which can go south fast if you don’t come fully prepared.

Before diving into this Case, werecommend first grabbing theKatanaandSubmachine Gunfrom Paradise Plaza, along with afew jugs of Orange JuicefromColombian Roastmasterson thesecond floor of Paradise Plaza,as these items will go a long way in quickly dispatching Carlito during the first encounter.

With these items in your inventory, head to the Food Court, where you will trigger a cutscenewhere Brad is taking cover from incoming fire. He will hand you a Handgun and tell you to try and get close to him and take him down, leading you directly into the first encounter against Carlito.

How To Defeat Carlito In Case 1-2: Backup For Brad

After the cutscene plays out, wait for Carlito to finish firing at Brad, forcing him to reloadhis SMG. During this moment, run across the Food Couts and up the stairs underneath the large ‘Welcome’ sign, where Carlito is. Here,he will loosely turn his focus on you,so be prepared for incoming fire.

Defeating Carlito

Now, there areseveral ways you can approach this encounter,as you canget up close and personal or can take a slower, safer methodthat will likely be your best bet since youwon’t have a lot of health at this pointin the game. If youwant to go all in,you canclimb onto the platform Carlito is on by scaling a stack of boxes near the centerof the area.

Once on top of the platform, use the Katana and SMG you picked up earlier to make quick work of him,all whiletaking cover and chugging Orange Juice to replenish your health.Again, it’s not the safest method, but it will be the faster one of the two.

Yoursecond optionis much slower but ultimately safer, and that’s bypositioning yourself near the rear of the Food Court, where ‘The Dark Bean’ and ‘Meaty’s Burgers’ are found. You willsee Carlito in the distance, still focused on Brad.Once hestops shooting, begin unloading into his back.

He will eventually run to the rear of the Food Court as well but will still be above you. However, at this point of the fight,he will begin running back and forth behind a few of the store signs, periodically firing at you and thenstopping to reload.Whenever he does that, take several shots at him with your SMG or Handgunandrinse and repeatuntil he’s defeated!

Carlito Is Defeated… For Now

Landing the final shot on Carlito will trigger another cutscenewhere Carlito will grab hold of a rope and use it to lift himself out of the Food Court, fleeing from Frank and Brad. This causes them to return to the Security Room, where you will gain intel on the following Case.

There areno rewards outside of Prestige Points (EXP)for defeating Carlito, an oddity for sure when it comes to Psychopaths.

Case 2-2: Rescue The Professor Guide

Again, before you stumble into the second encounter with Carlito, westrongly recommend grabbing theSubmachine Gunfrom Paradise Plaza, along withseveral things of Orange Juice,as you will need them for this encounter. He hits HARD, so be prepared.

Next, head to Entrance Plaza to trigger another cutscene, this time with Carlito wielding a Sniper Rifle and taking shots at Brad and now Frank, leading into the fight. This one is a bit trickier, but it’s the same strategy overall, which we will go over below!

How To Defeat Carlito In Case 2-1: Rescue The Professor

While youcan instantly turn around and run up the escalatorsbehind you to get closer to Carlito after the cutscene plays, there isanother strategy we feel you should absolutely take advantage ofif you want to get this fight over and done with quickly.

As soon as the cutscene ends, run forward and use the large pillars to take coverfrom Carlito’s shots. You will see the ‘Everyone Luvs Books’ store on your left, dart inside of it, and follow it out to be near the middle of Entrance Plaza. From here, use the pillars to move toward the mall’s entrance, where the stairs are.

Whenlooking at the entrance, take the stairs on the left and follow them up,placing youto the right of Carlitoon theopposite side of the second floor. He will be on the left, firing at Brad, quickly move up the righthand side and take cover behind the large pillarswhen he switches his attention to you.

Pushing up the righthand side of the second floorwill eventually haveCarlito focus his attention on you, allowing you touse the massive pillars to take cover. However, what it also does ishave him stop moving altogether, making him a sitting duck sincehe is essentially sandwiched between you and Brad.

Justtake cover when you see the laserfrom his Sniper Rifle get fixed on you, thenpop out and mow him down when it’s not.Since he cannot move, you willeliminate him swiftly, saving you the headache of constantly dodging and repositioning yourselfto get a few shots in on him.

Moving up too far or encroaching on the left-hand side where he is will cause him to move,so be careful and don’t overextend your position. Just be patient, and he will be defeated in no time!

Carlito Is Defeated… For Now… Again

Delivering the final blow on Carlito will trigger another cutscene. This time, he pulls out his Handgun and fires a shot at Brad’s thigh, causing him to go down and forcing Frank to stop pursuing him to tend to Brad’s wound. After this, they will save the Professor, and Frank will escort Brad back to the Security Room, where they will attempt to get information.

Case 7-2: Bomb Collector

Thethird and final meeting with Carlitowon’t be until case7-2: Bomb Collector, toward the end of the 72-Hour Mode. However, it’snot really a ‘Psychopath’ fight, as you’re not actively fighting Carlito. You’re just trying toevade him in the Maintenance Tunnels while attempting to disarm Bombsscattered throughout it.

So, as a result,we will not be covering this Case or encounter here but will instead have a separate guide detailing the best route to take and how to complete itwith ease. We will link to it here whenever it’s completed!
