Enotria: The Last Songfeatures many interesting bosses inspired by Italian folklore that the Maskless One has to defeat. Some of these bosses are incredible challenging and will test your skill and patience to the limit.
Curtis, Prince of Laughter, is the first boss that you’ll encounter after the tutorial. This boss tests everything that you’ve learned so far, and you’ll have to show your mastery of the game mechanics to come out victorious against him. Fortunately, once you’ve figured out his moves, he’s fairly easy to deal with.
How To Find Curtis, Prince Of Laughter
Curtis, Prince of Laughter can be foundnear the Church of Maja Knotin the town inside theQuinta region. To reach this area, you have to cross the Field of Beginnings andtravel through the Lesser Commonsarea till you reach this location.
At the Church of Maja Knot, you willfind Pulcinella sitting at a barrelnext to a door. If you talk to him, he will say something about going forward and causing chaos. Once you open that door, you’ll begin the boss battle against Curtis, Prince of Laughter.
Battle Preparations To Beat Curtis, Prince Of Laughter
The boss hits hard, andfocuses on combo attacks, giving you much less time to retaliate. Equipping a Longsword for this fight is recommended so you can execute several attacks in the short time you get after doing asuccessful parry or dodging oneof his attacks before the next one comes out.
Using theJuniper Longswordfor this boss battle is likely the best option as it is one of the best Longswords you may acquire early on.
There is also an Equipment Enhancement area right beside the Church of Maja Knot, allowing you to enhance your weapon of choice. If you’ve been exploring thoroughly, you might be able to easilyenhance your weapon of choice to +3, which can drastically make the fight easier.
Among Perks, anything that enhances your Finishing Attacks, such as thePath of Trickery and Path of Fury perksare great options to use for this fight, as most of your damage will likely be coming from dealing the Finishing Attacks after Unraveling the boss.
Curtis, Prince Of Laughter Attacks
Curtis, Prince of Laughter, usually uses combo attacks that are fairly easy to recognize and parry. However, after you’ve taken out half of his HP, the boss will start using attacks imbued withVis, which applies the Dizzyeffect on the Maskless One, enhancing their attack while reducing their defense.
How To Avoid
Charge Attack
The boss will charge at you,closing the distance quickly, and smashing his polearm on the ground.
You can simply avoid this attack bydodging to your sides. You can alsoparry this attack fairly easilyand execute a few hits before the boss starts to do his next attack.
Two Swings Into Thrust Combo
The boss will raise the weapon in one hand, attacking the Maskless Onewith a right-to-left swing, and then a left-to-right swing. The third attack is a thrust attack and the boss may sometimes not execute it.
you may avoid the swings bydodging to your backand creating some distance between you and the boss. For the thrust attack, you’ll have tododge to the side.
Feint Attack
Curtis, Prince of Laughter will startswinging his swordfrom his right, only to stop halfway and do theswing from his left side.
This attack is incredibly slow, and you canget a couple of hits inbefore the attack connects. Dodge to your back to avoid the swing.
Polearm Slam
After you’ve taken out half of his HP, the boss is telegraphed to do this move where he smashes thebase of his polearm on the ground twice, dealing damage in a small area. After the attack, the boss will have ashield imbued with Vis, alongside the polearm.
This attack is fairlydifficult to avoid due to it covering a small area, and sometimes you may get clipped by it whiledodging to the sides. The best way to avoid this is to simply sprint away when you know this attack is coming.
Shield Bash
Curtis, Prince of Laughter will run at you, swinging his shield in a parrying motion. If you get hit by it, it willbuild up the Dizzy status effect. The boss may do a follow-up strike in some cases.
Whenever the boss has the shield in his hand, and he starts running towards you, it is most likely this attack. You can easily avoid it bydodging to the sides. Dodge again to your right or your back toavoid the follow-up attack.
Running Slash
Whenever you try to retreat and heal, the boss will likely throw this attack wherehe charges at you rapidlyto throw aquick swing.
Just keep in mind that he has this attack in his arsenal whenever you attempt to back off and heal. Afterpopping off the heal, it’s best to throw a dodge to your back as quickly as possible.
Vis Slash
The boss will do alarge swing of his polearm, inflicting Vis if it hits the player.
This attack has adecent range and dodgingmight get you clipped. Jumping is a better way of avoiding this attack.
Three Thrusts Combo
Curtis, Prince of Laughter, willthrust his polearm twicein quick succession, and then a third thrust after a short delay.
You can avoid each thrust bydodging to the sides. Be wary of thethird delayed attackas it will allow the boss to realign himself if youkeep dodging around him, so you will have to watch your timing.
How To Defeat Curtis, Prince Of Laughter
The best way to beat this boss is to stay in hisface and parry all of his attacksduring the first phase. Watch his hand, and parry exactly as the hand is about to connect with you. Most of his attacks arefairly easy to parryduring the first phase.
After you’ve taken half of his HP out, the boss will start moving a lot and some of his new attacks become a lot more difficult to parry. You will have to also move around anddodge consistently. Recognize which attacks can beparried and which attacks you’ll have to dodge.
The best way to recognize which attacks to dodge is by watching the polearm. If the polearm is infused with Vis, it’s better to simply focus on dodging instead of parrying.
Use Mask Lines only when you have staggered the boss or aftersuccessfully dodging or parrying his combo attacks, as they have a longer recovery duration for the boss. If you try using the Mask Lines in other situations, you will likely get hit.

Defeating Curtis, Prince Of Laughter, rewards you with15,000 Memoria. You will also receive250 Curtis Mask Shards, which will be useful later on to craft his Mask.
The boss battle also rewards you with aDecorated Roncone, an excellent early-game weapon. You also receive theAspect of Curtis, Wrathful Charge, and Collera de’ Principe Lines. The Aspect of Curtis significantly increases all your stats exceptElementalist and Battlemage, which are both greatly decreased.
