“Grieving Ghost of the Goblet” pits players inMetaphor: ReFantazioagainst Fatolich in the Tomb of Lament. It’s all very dramatically titled, and in truth, the Tomb of Lament can be as daunting as it sounds like. But Fatolich itself is fairly easy to overcome -ifyou know what you’re doing ahead of time.
Follow our guide so that you may get started on this quest, as well as the related quest, “The Chalice vs. The Brew”. With both of them in tow, head to the dungeon, which we’ve got a walkthrough on, and then do unto Fatolich what Fatolich would have done unto you.
How To Begin “Grieving Ghost Of The Goblet”
In most cases, picking up abounty questis as simple asvisiting a city’s local Recruitment Centre. And, indeed, the same holds true for"Grieving Ghost of the Goblet", which tasks you withslaying Fatolich. There’s a bit of a twist, however.
Namely, there’sanother side quest closely associated with this one, so you certainly don’t want to miss it. The side quest is entitled"The Chalice vs. The Brew", and you’ll find the petitioner, designedBrewer, atPort Brilehaven: Arenafront Wharf.
In our experience, both these quests became available at the same time,on or around 7/23.
Quest Prep
The informant atThe Greatest Catch, the tavern in Brilehaven, sells a note informing you thatFatolich summons a Chimenza, and grows more powerful when it does. you’re able to buy the tip if you’re a completionist, but you won’t need it if you’re reading our guide!
Pick up around ten or soTinned Torporsfrom theBlack Cat’s Claw, the item shop inBrilehaven. These will be helpful forlowering your foes' Attack stat;theGuptauros enemiesprowling the Tomb of Lament hit hard.
SomeGreat Fairy DustsandExpensive Medicineswill also help. TheLifesaving Medicinecosts a pretty penny at 1,000 reeve per bottle, sowe’d recommend refraining from grabbing those,by contrast. Maybe later in the game, when 1,000 reeve is easier to come by…
Tomb Of Lament
TheTomb of Lamentis the name of thedungeon where you’ll find Fatolich. It’s filled with tough foes, andwe have a full walkthrough to the Tomb of Lamentto ensure you find every treasure and know what’s in store for you with each enemy.
Since Fatolich carries theChalice of Legends, which the bounty quest has youshow to the Recruitment Officeras proof of the deed, and your other quest tells you tobring to the brewer, we’ve got a two-liches-with-one-stone situation on our hands here.
Recommended Party Setup
As always, Metaphor: ReFantazio’s quite forgiving toward those of us who love to theorycraft, devising strategies galore.
The following is far from the only workable party setup, but it’s built arounddestroying Fatolich before it can do much of anything, so we think you’ll find it to your liking.
Magic Seeker
Front
Inherit theHamaonskill, inherited from theClericArchetype, and use it liberally. If needed, serve as the team’s healer; but our strategy involves arapid approach to defeating Fatolich, so don’t get carried away healing.
Brawler/Pugilist
Begin the battle withPerfect Punch, inherited via theBrawlerArchetype.Crushing Fist, if you’ve unlocked thePugilist, works even better. Use it when he’s at full HP, or any otherStrikedamage attack that suits you, when he isn’t.

Moveset
Soul Cry
Gains two turn icons. Typically uses it to set up the summoning of a Chimenza.
Summons a Chimenza.
Deiamahan
This is cast not by the Fatolich, but by the summoned Chimenza, on the same turn it’s brought
into the battle. Using the second of the two turn icons gained via Soul Cry, it fully heals Fatolich.
Hyper
When Fatolich casts Hyper, it’s spending its turn icon building toward tremendous power for the
The Chimenza can use a single-target Electric-elemental medium-damage spell.
Battle Strategy
As mentioned earlier, the strategy we used to defeat Fatolich involves getting rid of it long before it poses a threat. Provided you’rearound level 30 or so, the following tacticsshouldwork like a charm.
We do this bytearing through its HPin the first turn, shrugging our shoulders when theChimenza heals Fatolich on the first turn, and thentearing through its HP a second time.
In thefirst round, haveStrohl and Hulkenberguse eitherPerfect Punch, or, if you have it,Crushing Fist, dealing heaps of damage to Fatolich.Heismayshould, with his superior Agility, try to steal the Fulmine Rod. The protagonist should useHamaonor heal if necessary.
The reason the protagonist isn’t simply another Brawler/Pugilist is so thathe can top off everyone’s HP when needed,so as to ensure that the other party members' HP-based attacks go off without a reduction in damage.
By the time Fatolich gets its first turn, it’ll useSoul Cry,Summonthe Chimenza, and then the Chimenza willheal Fatolich to nearly full HP. Whatever - we’llrinse and repeatour prior actions, except this time,Heismay will join in on the punching.
After the second round,Fatolich should be fairly low on health. It will waste its turn usingHypertoconcentrate for the coming of a super-powerful attackon the third round. Unfortunately for Fatolich, one more round of our strategy will kill it.
At this point, only Chimenza remains. It might fire off a couple ofKanderaspells, medium, single-target,Electric damage. Wipe it out and that’s a wrap.
Rewards For Defeating Fatolich
Whenever you’re donetraveling along the world map to complete other quests, justreturn to Brilehavenand turn in theChalice of Legendsthat you acquired by defeating Fatolich. Head to theRecruitment Centre first.
If you see the Brewer before turning in the bounty,Gallica will simply realize that the protagonist still needs to show the Chalice of Legends to the soldier first.
For your efforts,52,500 reeveand the customary, bounty-related,increase in Couragewill be obtained. (The bounty is35,000 reevewithout Catherina’s follower boon, but from what we can tell, you’ll probably have it by this point.)
When you’re done with that, return to the Brewer at Arenafront Wharf. Your reward from him is7,500 reeve and a Miraculous Mead, which fully restores the party’s HP when used.
