Shortlyafter defeating Homo Fulquiloin the Nord Mines inMetaphor: ReFantazio, you’ll be faced with an optional boss: the Fire Dragon Mauna. You can absolutely sneak past the dragon and other smaller enemies to leave the mines unscathed, but I recommend taking on the beast to score Strohl a decent new sword.

Understandably, depending on the difficulty you choose, this battle will vary. Regardless, you’ll likely be hurting a little after Homo Fulquilo, and at the very least, running shorter on Magla than before, so although the strategy will be the same, it comes down to what shape your team is in.

Pre-Battle Prep

Once you’re in the chamber where Fire Dragon Mauna is,you can’t return back to the Magla Hollowso make sure you save and buy any items you need from the vendor beforehand.

Yourbiggest obstacle is going to be how much MP your team hasafter that last boss battle, as if it’s rather low, you’ll be limited on how to replenish it, possibly only having the Magla Potion you obtained from defeating Homo Fulquilo.

If you have MP:

You should be pretty good using the same strategy as before. I recommendsome Medicines, a Revival Medicine or two, and some Ice Chunksif you can afford it.

Ifyou’re short on MP:

I recommendbuying a lot of Ice Chunks and recovery itemsas you’ll essentially be relying on these to heal and deal the most damage.

Don’t forget you can sell items to the vendor to earn some money so that you can buy everything you need.

You still only haveStrohl and Grius at this point, but depending on your MP there area couple of strategiesyou can employ. In terms of Archetypes and Formation, we recommend the following:

Buffing Grius with Tarukaja and healing with Dei as needed.

Hitting Fire Dragon Mauna’s weakness in Metaphor Refantazio.

Back

Casting Blizz to target Fire Dragon Mauna’s weakness.

Thestrategy will be largely the same as Homo Fulquiloas both bosses are weak to Ice and deal in Fire attacks.

Warrior

Use Ice Chunks as much as possible to attack Fire Dragon Mauna, use Medicine to heal as needed.

Front

If you don’t have the MP to use the previous strategy, you need to rely on items instead. The reason I recommend changing all the characters to theWarrior Archetype is because it has resistance to Fire attacksbut there’s no point having them all in the same row as otherwise they’ll all take damage from Tail Swipe.

If you have a mix of characters with or without MP, I recommend ensuring the character with the most MP is set as a Mage to cast Blizz as much as possible, while the others can be Warriors to heal and attack using items.

Getting the Dragon’s Indignation greatsword in Metaphor Refantazio.

Physical damage to all party members in one row.

Battle Strategy

If you have MP,open by buffing Grius with Tarukajaand replenish it later as needed when it wears off as the aim will be forGrius to use Blizz as often as possibleto hit Fire Dragon Mauna’s Weakness throughout the battle.

If you are relying on items, justhit the dragon with as many Ice Chunks as you can in the opening Turn Iconsand score yourself some bonus Turn Icons from hitting its weakness.

Fire Dragon Mauna will likely open with two Scratch attacks, but in later turns it’ll use a mix of physical and Fire attacks. You need tokeep trying to deal as much Ice damage while keeping your party healeduntil the dragon is driven away.

If you do have the protagonist as Seeker and they are unfortunate enough to get hit by a Fire attack, hitting their weakness, Fire Dragon Mauna will get an extra Turn Icon.

This fight will be easier the more MP you have, but is doable with just items. Even if you have MP, it’sworth using some Ice Chunks with the protagonistif you have them when you don’t need to heal.

You’llearn an Amethystby defeating Fire Dragon Mauna, but the real prize comes after the battle.

With the dragon driven away, you can claim the loot it was guarding, grabbing anOnyx, Glossy Fur, Grand Iron, and most importantly, the Dragon’s Indignation from within the treasure chest. This is a greatsword for the Warrior Archetype, so verify you equip it to Strohl.
