The Faron Temple is one of the toughest and most head-scratching dungeonsThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomhas to offer with its multiple floors, pitch black rooms, and litany of hazards. So it’s no surprise that the boss battle that awaits you at the end is equally punishing in its appearance, attacks, and just about everything else.
Gohma is a giant spider who has taken over the Faron Wetlands and hypnotised the Deku Scrubs with their sickly sweet webs disguised as cotton candy, and now Zelda must put a stop to them. It’s time to bring the lightning.
Gohma Fight Overview
You will be teased about Gohma’s presence after arriving in Faron Wetlands. The ground is covered in giant webs, while the local population of Deku Scrubs have traded in smoothies for cotton candy made from the arachnid’s plentiful silk.
Smoothies thatrestore plenty of healthand provideresistance to shockare valuable in this fight and will make dealing with Gohma’s range of attacks much easier.
Myriad types of spiders will be encountered throughout the dungeon, but most of them can be dispatched with a healthy dose of fire or a smack of your sword. Gohma is far more daunting withher one giant eye that fires a deadly laserand environmental web hazards amidst the narrow boss arena that slows Zelda’s movement down to a crawl.
When combined with eggs that spawn smaller spiders and a constantly changing pattern of attacks, you’re in for one hell of a fight. But come prepared, and Gohma can be conquered.
How To Defeat Gohma
Gohma will begin the battle by crawling onto the wall andfiring out a handful of eggsthat will hatch into spiders if you don’t destroy them fast enough. If you do, some contain hearts and energy, which are pretty invaluable.Keep an eye out for its laser eye attack, too, which locks onto either Zelda or any echoes she has summoned.
You will notice thatGohma has three green crystals spread throughout her body, identical to those that conduct electricity throughout Faron Temple. In order to bring her down and make her vulnerable to attack, you will need to shock all three simultaneously using lightning.
When Gohma is down, the perfect echo is aDarknut Level 3. It attacks right away and has a massive turning circle which means missing is pretty much impossible.
While on the wall, the best way to achieve this is through theElectric Wizzrobe echo. When summoned at the right angle, it will shoot directly at one of the three crystals. But it loves to focus instead on any eggs or spiders in the vicinity, so make sure those are dealt with first.
Once Gohma is shocked, she will fall to the ground and curl into herself as a way to protect herself, but you need to aim for her eye, so jump atop her body and start slicing away with a well-placed echo orZelda’s swordfighter form.
After a few seconds,Gonma escapes using a telegraphed spin attack, so make sure you move away with enough time to avoid it.
Before returning to the safety of the wall,Gonma will use her claws to slice across the arena in the direction of Zelda, but as a consequence, will leave the three green crystals open for another round of shocks.
Don’t use the Electric Wizzrobe this time around, though;instead, equip the Buzz Blob.
They are cheap to cast, andZelda can simply jump around Gohma’s body and drop them directly on the crystals. Light Gohma up, and start attacking a second time.
Gohma’s final phase will see them jump between the wall and ceiling with little or no discernible pattern, so the final stretch is a matter ofbeing reactive to her behaviour.
Gohma will grow more unpredictable nowas she spouts more eggs and begins to use her laser attack with greater frequency. Don’t be disheartened by this though, and keep utilising the same strategy until she bites the dust.
Rewards For Beating Gohma
Gohma will reward Zelda with a full piece of heart just before offering Tri an upgrade to her summons that will make bringing forth select echoes much cheaper.
