After making your way through Regalith Grand Cathedral andtackling Zorba head-oninMetaphor: ReFantazio, you’ll have yet another boss to face, Homo Avades. Fortunately, you go into this with your HP and MP fully replenished, as well as being given the opportunity to switch up your party as needed via a Plateau Mirage.
If you want to know Homo Avades' weaknesses, resistances, strategy, and overall how best to beat its weird-looking butt with the best party setup, we’ve got everything you need to know right here.
Pre-Battle Prep
Ideallyyour party should be about Level 15-16 on Normal Difficulty, but naturally can be lower if you are tackling this on an easier difficulty.
You’ll be able touse the Plateau Mirage to save(which we recommend doing) and you’ll have the opportunity to study or change your Archetypes.
There is no vendor or opportunity to restock items or equipment from stores, but at least your HP and MP are fully recovered.
Recommended Party Setup
There is a lot of leeway for the party setup with this one. Essentially, ensure you have someone capable of healing and then two good Physical damage dealers. In terms of Archetypes and Formation, we recommend the following:
Healer/Seeker
Back
The goal with the protagonist is to keep the party healed. We recommend Healer as Medi can heal the full partyat once andLight Dodge will help you to avoid some attacks. Additionally, using a Mace means you can strike the Shell’s weakness.
Seeker will work as well, but Healer is the preferred option.
Warrior/Brawler/Knight
Front
Werecommend using Warrior with Strohl, especially if you haveDragon’s Judgment equipped and it has been purified so it does Fire damageas this is great against the hands.
If not, Brawler or Knight work just as well. The main focus is to deal Physical damage.
Knight/Warrior/Brawler
Knight is likely what you have levelled the most for Hulkenberg, but any Physical damage dealer will work well here.
Having someone with a Fire attack for the hands is a nice bonus.

Dark
If you want to attack Homo Avades (the heart) at close-range, you first have to knock it down by destroying the shell. The shell will regenerate later.
Resist
This is the heart with the strange characters walking around. It can be hit with ranged attacks but you’ll need to knock down Homo Avades by destroying the shell to reach it with close-range attacks, which you want to do as it’s resistant to all Magic.
These little creatures appear once Homo Avades recovers after the shell has broken. They will attack your entire party unless you defeat them before their turn.
Gallica can distract the troops to drop their endurance, removing most of their HP. However, she won’t be able to use this every time they appear so be warned she needs to rest afterward.
The hands regenerate the shell, so eliminating them will stop this from happening but you must destroy both.
Light damage to one party member.
Oblivion Dust
Has a chance of inflicting Forget on party members so they can’t use skills.
Shell Regeneration
Used (when it has hands) on the first Turn Icon after Assailants have either attacked or been defeated to restore its shell.
Swiping Arc
Physical attack to all party members. If it doesn’t have hands, this attack will miss.
Incomplete Regeneration
Used (without hands) on the first Turn Icon after Assailants have either attacked or been defeated to restore a sliver of its shell.
Battle Strategy
The battle begins with two targets:
Theaim of this battle is to take out the heart, as this ends the fight, but first we need to take out the Shell.
If the protagonist is a Healer, their Strike physical attack will hit the Shell’s weaknessand get you an extra Turn Icon.Destroying the Shell will knock Homo Avades down for one turn, meaning your party will get two whole turns in a row to make the most beating the heart.
On its next Turn Icon,Homo Avades will stand back up and Assailants will appearwithin it.
If you do not destroy the Assailants before it is their turn, they will attack you with Ambush Assault causing physical damage to all party members.
If you do defeat them in time, the subsequent attack will immediately fail.
After the Assailants attack (or if you defeated them), on Homo Avades next turn,it will use Shell Regeneration to restore its Shell. From this point onward, you can now attack the Left and Right Handsthat are responsible for Shell Restoration.
Destroying both hands will stop Homo Avades from being able to use Shell Regeneration.
When it has its hands, either one or both, it will useSwiping Arc to cause physical damage to all party members on most turns, coupled with Hamaon. (After it has just lost its hands, it may still attempt to use this move but it will miss.)
If you have a party member with Fire, you can hit the Hands' weakness.
Once you’ve defeated the hands, Homo Avades will switch to usingIncomplete Regeneration, which restores only a small part of its Shellthat can usually be knocked out in one hit. This means your cycle of destroy Shell to get to the heart is now much speedier.
For the most part, Homo Avades will use Light-based attacks(which if your protagonist is a Healer they will dodge) and Oblivion Dust, which has a chance of inflicting Forget, locking your team member out from using skills.
Once Homo Avades goesbelow 50 percent health, it will use Soul Screamon its next turn (after the Assailants have been dealt with) togive itself four Turn Icons.
Homo Avadesshouldn’t prove too much of a challengeand you just have to ensure you are consistently chipping away at its health while dealing with the extra elements and keeping your own HP topped up. You will earnAvades’s Eggshellupon its defeat.
