BeforeMetaphor: ReFantazio’s multi-tribe heroes and heroines can reach the shores of Virga Island, they come face-to-face with a terrifying deep-sea predator. It’s a human; and as we’ve learned, humans are bad news in this game. Homo Sabara and all its massive tentacles strike the gauntlet runner, and it’s up to the party to put an end to its rampage.
Here’s our guide on how to beat Homo Sabara. It includes our party setup at the time, as well as the skills we used, the timing of our attacks, and everything Homo Sabara threw at us along the way.
Pre-Battle Prep
Although the story throws you straight into the unexpected encounter withHomo Sabara, you’re able to takeall the time you need preparing aboard the Gauntlet Runnerbefore you head to deck to greet your foe.
Now thatJunah has recently joined, you’ll find thatonly four characters can be in the active party at once, meaning you have to leave someone behind. But, as the tutorial at the start of the boss fight notes, you can use a turn icon to swap someone out.
Frankly, the only major setup you need for this fight isa character with Medica(or a rough equivalent) andeither Recarm or several Revival Balms, just in case they’re needed. We tend to go into greater detail with this stuff, but honestly, follow our party setup, and you’re fine.
Magic Seeker
Front
We’ll be usingKande, inherited from the Mage, asHomo Sabara is weak to Electric. Otherwise, it’sMedicaduty on the regular, and
Pugilist
If you’re able to’t use synthesis, have Strohl useCrushing Fist.Whenever hecanuse synthesis, useSuper Energy Rayfor high damage.
General
Have Hulkenberg castMatarukajatoraise the party’s Attack power. Thereafter, anymulti-targetskill, such asFlaming Vanguard, will
suffice for culling the tentacles. you may tap into theAttack Beaconsynthesis skill with the protagonist toraise all of the party’s
Masked Dancer
Back
Junah, like the protagonist, should useKande.Beyond that, you may have heraid Hulkenberg with her
Blusterblast Maneuver synthesis, which deals extreme Fire damage and lowers foes' Hit and Evasion.
Single-target strike damage.
Random Strike
Party-wide strike damage. Adds hits depending on the number of legs
Electric
Battle Strategy
In many fights with “adds” - additional, weaker, foes, we’ll advise you to skip the proverbial middlemen and go straight for the boss. In Homo Sabara’s case, that’salmostthe case, but not quite. You will want to deal enough damage to wipe out the legs in a few turns.
That’s becauseRandom Strikegets a hit multiplier based onthe number of legs still activeon any given turn. AsSlam Strikeis not especially dangerous, it’s the potential fora high number of blows from Random Strikethat makes this fight more problematic.
Even so, don’t go overboard (ha) with it.Most of the attacks we’ll use against Homo Sabara are single-target, focused on eliminating the creature. You can haveHulkenberguse a multi-target skill when she’s finishingcasting Matarukaja, which raises the party’s stats.
Strohlshould useCrushing Fistformedium Strike damage with a modifier that adds damage if he’s at high HP. Sincethe protagonist should cast Medicaon a regular basis, Strohl should frequently have that going for him.
But, and this is important,if there are at least two turn icons remaining when Strohl’s turn is up, use the synthesis skill Super Energy Ray instead.
With our party’s Attack stat elevated, e were dealingnearly 2,000 damageper blow with this thing.Thisis the ticket to a quick victory.
The protagonist should use the Electric-affinityKande(orKanderaif you have it), as Homo Sabara is weak to this. It’ll do fair damage, but it’ll alsocontribute to the number of turn icons at your disposal- which is precisely whywe had Junah doing the exact same thing.
When Homo Sabara is atabout a third of its HP, ensure thatthe next turn you have is spent eliminating itrather than allowing it to dip lower. At critical HP, it usesSoul Scream, which enables it to gainfour additional turn icons. It then usesRandom Strike en masse.
So long as you avoid that situation, you’ll be fine, and Homo Sabara will soon be toast. Even if you happen to fall into that trap, just use Medica and round things off, reviving party members if needed.
