Some ofDead Rising Deluxe Remaster’s most interesting moments are the boss battles against human enemies, known as Psychopaths, who have cracked under the pressure of the zombie outbreak.
While most of these fights are against sympathetic enemies you can somewhat relate to, there’s one character that everyone loves to hate - Kent Swanson, the cocky photographer who thinks he’s better than Frank.
How To Find Kent
Kent is one of the first Psychopaths you’ll run into in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, although he won’t seem like an enemy at first.Kent will pop up in Paradise Plaza at 2pm on the first day as part of the Cut From The Same Cloth mission, and will stick around until 8pm. Once you find him, a cutscene will trigger where he challenges Frank to take some photos.
Before he can issue a proper mission, though, Kent will ask you to follow him around and take photos of him. The first one you’ll need to get is easy,as it’s just a 500PP photo of him using his camera. The next one will be of his “cool pose”, which iswhen he raises his fist in the air after taking a photo.
If you’re struggling to clear Kent’s first photo request, head to Contemporary Reading in Paradise Plaza and grab Camera 1 for a boost to your photos.
This one can be a bit of a pain to figure out since he moves around so much and rarely does the move, but just keep an eye on him and take his photo as many times as you need. Once you’ve got the right one and earned 700PP for it, the mission will end and you’ll get a new Scoop called “Photo Challenge”.
How To Beat Kent’s Photo Challenge
Kent’s Photo Challenge isactive from the moment you finish his first mission all the way to 12pm on Day 2. To complete it,you’ll need to take a photo worth 750PP that has the Outtake category, which is a very easy task and something you can do right after you’re issued the challenge.
To get this one, simplygo over to Child’s Play in Paradise Plaza, grab a few Novelty Masks, and then place them on the heads of zombies. Take a photo of the result and ensure you get enough PP for it and you’ll have what you need. The mission won’t clear until you give Kent the photo at 12pm, so don’t stress about it still being there for the rest of the day.
Once you return to meet Kent at 12, you’ll show him your photo and then get told to meet him back there at 12pm on Day 3, which is when his not-so-surprising Psychopath battle will happen.
How To Defeat Kent
Preparation
The most important thing about Kent’s boss battle ismaking sure you arrive exactly on time for it on Day 3. If you’re more than five minutes late to the scoop, thenKent will not only make the fight harder by chaining you up and taking your items away, but he’ll also kill a survivor called Tad that he has hostage.
Getting there on time will make sure that doesn’t happen and will offer a much easier fight since Frank will have access to all of his weapons.Make sure you bring some healing items to the fight with you(although Colombian Roastmasters and its infinite supply of Orange Juice are right near where the fight starts) andstock up on Small Chainsaws, Katanas, and Mannequin Torsosas reliable melee weapons.
You’re also going to want to have some guns on you for when Kent gets too far away,so head to the Huntin' Shack long before the mission starts so that you’re not late for his boss battle. I’d recommend the Shotgun as a good option, but the Submachine Gun that’s in Paradise Plaza is also a good thing to grab.
Kent’s Moves
Although Kent might not look like a challenge, he can be one of the biggest pains to fight in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.His main attack is his signature jump kick, which has him leaping off the ground and towards Frank for a move that can send him flying and take off some decent health. He also charges at Frank when he’s not doing this move, which will also push you back.
The Jump Kick is Kent’s main attack but he’llalso use some more basic melee hits like kicking and punching if Frank is near. When he’s not doing that,he’ll be running around the arena at a surprisingly high speed and rolling away from attacks, which makes him difficult to pin down in the middle of the fight.
Kent also has some long-range capabilities, ashe has a handgun that he’ll use to fire a few shots at Frank when he gets too far away. This isn’t massively damaging by any means, but it does stun-lock Frank and make Kent harder to avoid when he mixes it in with his jump kick and rolls.
Defeating Kent
Like I said in the preparation bit above,it is essential that you get to Kent on time and don’t arrive later than 12:05pm, or the fight will be a whole lot worse than it is usually. Getting there on time lets you keep your weapons and makes it a fairly easy battle.Kent’s main strength is how fast he is, which makes him a bit of a tough target and means he can catch up to Frank easily.
The trick to dealing with Kent is the same as most Psychopaths in Dead Rising -get away from him and use your firearms as much as possible. Kent is moredangerous at close range than he is from far away and his only ranged option is a handgun that is easily avoided, so your best bet is to run far away and then shoot.
When Kent does inevitably catch up with you, though, a good strategy is to dodge roll away and then get in close with your melee weapons. As long as you’re using something powerful like the Small Chainsaw, they’ll tear through his health with ease. Combine that with some more dodging and shooting, and Kent will finally get what he deserves.
Rewards For Defeating Kent
Just like every other boss in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, Kent has a bonus when you finally finish him off.He’ll drop the Camera 2 book (which will spawn just outside of Colombian Roastmasters for the rest of your playthrough), which gives you a 100 percent increase to PP gained from taking photos.
To be honest, it’s not a very helpful book in the grand scheme of things. Your encounter with Kent is far too late into the game for it to really matter, and you can only make use of it for a limited amount of time until 72 Hour Mode is over. It has some uses, but it’s not really worth waiting for. A better reward is the opportunity to save a survivor called Tad, who will go towards the Saint challenge.
