Dead Rising Deluxe Remasteris an excellent way to revisit an absolute banger of a game or experience it fresh for the first time. It comes complete with all the whacky and deranged Psychopaths we all know and love, allowing us to see them in all their chaotic goodness in higher fidelity, making them much more daunting than ever before.
And Larry Chiang is one of the bosses who benefitted most from the visual upgrades, making his horrific attempt at turning Carlito into ground meat all that more realized. This encounter is still as exciting as ever, making it one of our favorites, even if it is a tad bit easier compared to the others.
How To Find Larry Chiang
Uponcompletingthe Case ‘Jessie’s Discovery,’ whereJessie and Frank observe CCTVfootage of aderanged butcher dragging what appears to be CarlitoKeyes into aMeat Processing Area in the basement of the mall, the Case ‘The Butcher’ will become available, having youtravel through theMaintenance Tunnelsto the Meat Processing Area.
This Case is a mandatory questthat takes place during thethird dayof the outbreak. It is thepenultimate Caseof Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Once you arrive at the Meat Processing Area, a cutscene will play out, where you will then be tossed into battle against Larry!
How To Defeat Larry Chiang
Like always, before you enter the Meat Processing Area, you shouldprepare your inventoryto make this encounter as trivial as possible. To do this,grab the Katana and Submachine Gun in Paradise Plaza,along withthree to even four things of Orange Juiceto keep on top of your health.
Youlikely won’t need more than that,as this encounter isn’t all that difficult to begin with, butif you want to bring an extra Submachine Gunjust in case, you canfind another onein thefountaininAl Fresca Plaza.This will be well more than enough, so make your way to the Meat Processing Area!
Larry Chiang Moves
Larry is a pretty robust Psychopathin regards to his moves, as he has many of them. He willtypically open the encounter up with a Charging Attack,having himlower his shoulders and dart forward,delivering adevastating slash with his Meat Cleaverat the end. Themoment you see him drop his shoulder,prepare toroll away from him at the right secondto evade it.
Try tomake your way over to the long metal table near the left sideof the room, asLarry will begin tossing Throwing Knivesat you. If you’reon the opposite end of the table, these projectiles will never hit you,allowing you to justopen fire on him as he struggles to hit you.Utilize this table often and whenever possible; it works tremendously well!
After a while,Larry will navigate over to the rows of Carcasseshanging from Meat Hooks and pull one offbefore hurling it at you.Whenever you see him begin to do this,switch to your Katana and take several swingsat him.After he gets the Carcass off the Hook,evade to the left or right to evadethe throw, then hit him one or two more times.
From here,repeat the steps outlined above until you have defeated Larry.He has a prettymeatyhealth pool, so it may take a bit of effort, but utilizing the table will help you shave off large chunks of his health pretty quickly!
In the original Dead Rising, Larry Chiang would occasionally pick up and eat a Can of Meat, replenishing some of his health. He didn’t do this during our bout with him, but it’s still highly possible he does this, so keep an eye out for that. This typically happened when you lowered his HP halfway, but he just didn’t do it for some reason when we fought him.
Rewards For Defeating Larry Chiang
Defeating Larry Chiang will have him drop hisMeat Cleaver,which will become apermanent spawn in the Meat Processing Areafrom this point onward. You will also receiveCarlito’s Locket,which willlead to the next events in the Main Story.
You willlikely have lots of time to kill before you have to return to Isabella,sotake this time to go around and save Survivors or take down any Psychopaths you may have missedduring the third day of the outbreak if they’re still available.
Larry Chiang counts toward the Punisher Achievement/Trophy in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, where you must defeat ten different Psychopaths during the 72-Hour Mode. If you’re gunning for this accomplishment, ensure you also tackled the others!
