The party faces the power of Lord Louis at long last in Altabury, following the climactic events at the opera house. Though weakened in physical might, Louis' steadfast resolve shines through. In practical terms, this means that his boss battle, while not one ofMetaphor: ReFantazio’s most challenging encounters, can still turn surprisingly bloody before long.

Our guide on how to beat Louis in Metaphor: ReFantazio goes over his strengths to avoid, his weaknesses to take advantage of, and how to ensure your party is more than up to the task of defeating this ambitious man - or, at least, living to see another day.

The protagonist’s Magic Seeker class in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Magic Seeker

Front

Inherityour strongest heal-all move. In our case, that meantMedicall.Team up with Hulkenberg for theFireblade Ridersynthesis skill.

Magic Knight

Other than aiding in Fireblade Rider, useMarakukajatoraise everyone’s defense. Use Formation of Vigor, inherited from theGeneral, to move all allies to the front row andraise Attack.

Assassin

Tap into Heismay’s considerable Agility by repeated castings ofTarundato lower Louis' formidable Attack. With Junah’s Sable Dance active, useAssassinateto deal considerable Dark-elemental damage.

Masked Dancer

Back

Similar to Hulkenberg, useMarakukajatoraise everyone’s defense.Give Louis a weakness to Darkness viaSable Dance, recasting as needed, and when Heismay can’t take advantage of it,use Crimson Vortexinstead.

Louis uses Royal Coercion in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Gains two turn icons.

Royal Coercion

Targets one party member, lowering their Attack and Defense considerably. Notably, he will always target the protagonist with this.

A standard Slash-based single-target attack.

Battle Strategy

Begin by having Heismay (or whomever else suits your fancy)cast Tarunda to lower Louis' Attack. We’re going to want to do thismultiple times to lower it to its minimum.

Meanwhile, have Hulkenberg and Junah (or, again, whomever you’ve chosen for the task)cast Marakukaja at least twice, ideally thrice,to elevateeveryone’s Defense by two to three stages.

Battling Louis at Altabury in metaphor: ReFantazio.

Once that’s been applied, useFormation Vigor, which moves all allies to the front row whileraising everyone’s Attack by two stages. The downside here is thateveryone’s Defense has been lowered, but thanks to Marakukaja, this won’t affect you much at all.

Louis will relentlessly useRoyal Coercion to lower the protagonist’s Attack and Defense. For this reason,we’re going to rely a bit less on the protagonist’s own attacks, and instead, have him routinely cast Medicallor its equivalent, using his synthesis skills when possible.

Have Junah useSable Dancetoforce Louis to suffer a one-time weakness to Darkness. Now that Heismay has Louis' Attack neutered, have Heismay use Assassinate, which will hit Louis with Darkness-elemental damage.Do this in rotationsto keep piling damage.

Whenever Louis' Attack-lowering is about to wear off, have Junahcast Crimson Flameinstead, which should hit for several hundred points of damage, whileHeismay reapplies Tarundaone round tokeep Louis' Attack down.

In short order, Louis fell for us, though - this may be anecdotal -he did seem to use Royal Slash with more rapidity toward the end of the fight. As such, the protagonist needed to spend more time curing, though that was hardly a setback, as he wasn’t doing much elsewise.
