It is quite easy to get lost in this area, but you have to keep in mind that you have to go uphill as theSchool of Zanni is the highest buildingin the area. Once you’re at the location, you’ll findPulcinella sitting in front of a large hall. Head into the building to begin the boss battle.
Zanni, The First Mask Attacks
Zanni is fairly unique compared to Curtis or Vermiglio becausethere aren’t a lot of attacks that you can parry consistently. Furthermore, Zanni’shitbox is quite unstable, you’ll get hit sometimes, even if you have visually evaded the move. The battle against this boss will require you to dodge a lot and focus on your positioning.
How To Avoid
Crawling Giant
Right as you enter the boss arena, Zanni, The First Mask, will start crawling towards you. He willstrike with his hands up to three timeswhile crawling.
you may avoid this attack bydodging to the sidesas you see him crawling towards you. You can also startsprinting awayand try circling around while the boss is executing this attack.
Two-Hit Sweep
The boss willsweep in front of himself with one of his gigantic hands. Zanni will then bring his hand back down on the ground, unleashing a second sweep.
You can avoid this attack entirely bysprinting and circling around the boss. Dodging at the correct time may also allow you to avoid this attack, but it is risky. Also, watch out for standing too close to his body. The boss’s hitbox may cause you to get hit, even if you have avoided the hand.
Hand Slam
The bosswill slam one of his handson the ground.
This attack is fairly easy toavoid by dodging, andcan even be parried, but the timing is very strict.
Grand Sweep
The boss will lean in anddo a huge sweep with his hand. This attack covers a large area.
you’re able to avoid this attack if youget behind Zanni. Getting out of theattack’s rangeif you’re at the front is also a reliable way of avoiding this attack.
Jumping Bodyslam
Zanni will jump into the air, slamming his entire bodyon the ground. This attack willunleash a shockwavethat will travel through the entire arena.
you may easily avoid this attack byjumping over the shockwave. If you’re too close to the boss when he uses this attack, usedodgeto minimalize the damage.
Polearm Swing Combo
Zanni, The First Mask, will swing his polearm around for three attacks. The polearm will be infused with Vis and will inflict the Dizzy status effect on the Maskless One.
This attack can be parried. Use theIndaco Tear Parry Gemto negate the entirety of the damage by executing a successful parry. Additionally, you’re able to also trymoving under his bellyor simply dodging to the back to get out of the attack’s range to avoid this attack.
Vis Stab

This attackcannot be parried, and you will have toget out of its range to avoid it. Luckily, the attack has an incredibly short range, so you can easily move away from it.
Tantrum Slams
The boss will repeatedlyslam one of his hands on the ground. The attack has a fairly short range.
This is a verylinear attack, so if you’re not directly under his hand, you will likely avoid it.Dodge to the sidesjust to be safe.
Giant Hand Slam
Zanni will raiseone of his arms high in the airfor a considerable duration, bringing it down at once tounleash a massive shockwaveall over the arena.

How To Defeat Zanni, The First Mask
Zanni, The First Mask, can be quite annoying to deal with because of hisunstable hitbox, but don’t let that bother you, and try tostay behind his back. If you stay up close to him and behind his back, you can limit his choice of attacks by a lot.
The boss becomesquite dangerous at a distance, utilizing his polearm to deal some damage. While you may parry the polearm, parrying the hand sweeps is quitedifficult and unreliable. Furthermore, if you let this boss do as he pleases and keep looking for openings, you’ll get easily overwhelmed.
Circle around and stay behind his back. Keep attacking him repeatedly. Due to his huge size, he is quite slow, and you may get a few hits in before he attacks you. This is more of a battle of attrition than anything else, which is why aFatuo weapon will be incredibly effectivehere.
Using a Fatuo weapon is heavily recommended in this fight because you’ll be able to inflict Wicked and then heal yourself by attacking the boss. Additionally, due to his affinity with the Vis element, he is quite weak to Fatuo.
Once you have Unraveled the boss, you will have tomove in front of the smaller, human half of his bodyto unleash a Finishing Attack. After getting hit by the Finishing Attack,Zanni will remain staggeredfor a little duration, where you’re able to further damage him with your attacks.
