TheDragon Quest 3 Remakeis a big game. There’s not only a very wide world to explore, but it’s a dense one, too. Almost every location in the game is a location you’re going to want or need to return to at some point, and usually that revolves around gaining a new key.

There are three special keys in Dragon Quest 3 Remake, with the first two opening a certain type of door, and the final key opening up any door in the world. All three of these special keys have their own unique steps to acquire, starting with the Thief’s Key.

How To Get The Thief’s Key

TheThief’s Keyis the first special key you’ll need to grab, and it’s the most straightforward of them. The Thief’s Key is going toopen up every red door in the world.

Getting Information In Reeve

The Thief’s Key islocated at Dreamer’s Tower, given to you by the Old Man at the top. Dreamer’s Tower itself is located on thesmall island towards the center of the larger islandthat you begin the game on, containing Aliahan and Reeve.

There will be many ways to get to Dreamer’s Tower eventually, but at first, it’s going tostart at Reeve, located on thenorthwest corner of the island.

Once in Reeve, head to the northmost building in the town, right next to the pond. Inside, the boy sitting at the table is going to tell you to go to the Dreamer’s Tower by traveling through ahidden passage in the woods to the south.

Getting To The Tunnel To Dreamer’s Tower

Exiting Reeve and heading south is a straight shot to the tunnel in the woods, located in a gap between the trees. Entering this location brings you to theShrine of the Plains; from there, head to the tunnel located on the top left of the map.

There is a Mini Medal in the barrel of the southwest side of the Shrine of the Plains area.

Inside Dreamer’s Tower

Entering the tunnel is going to put you in Dreamer’s Tower B1. From here, it’s awalk down a long hallway south, to the staircase leading up. Head up that staircase, and you’ll be on the base floor of Dreamer’s Tower.

This floor has many more paths and rooms on it compared to B1.Take the staircase up to B2, and on B2, the southwest staircase leads to B3. From B3, thewinding staircase near the center brings you to the Old Man.

How To Get The Magic Key

TheMagic Keyis a noticeable step-up in difficulty from the Thief’s Key, but is still pretty straightforward and easy enough, provided you have a working understanding of the combat. The Magic Key is going tounlock every blue doorin the world.

Departing From Asham

Characters inAshamare going to mention a myriad of things, but one of the things that they’ll talk about is the Magic Key and a desert city, which guides you toward the desert in the west.

To get there from Asham, head southwest, going past where the land narrows, and you’ll be met with the very large, and precarious, desert.

Heading To Ibis

Ibis is located on the south side of the desert by an oasis, and is a unique desert-city with various clues and hints about the Pyramid north of there. That Pyramid is where you’re going to have to head in order to get the Magic Key, and once you’re rested and ready to go, that’s where you should head.

Many of the hints about the Pyramid mention that it hasa wealth of trapsinside.

Finding The Magic Key In The Pyramid

ThePyramid is a walk north across the desert from Ibis, and one of the more involved dungeons in the game, mechanically. That’s not to say that the combat is any different from other dungeons, but it does come with more traps and puzzles than most other areas in the game.

There are seven floors to the Pyramid, including the basement level that you can fall into by walking on some of the false floors. On the first floor of the Pyramid, head to the staircase on the northeast side, whileavoiding the floor trapsin the junctions of the hallways.

From the second floor of the dungeon, head to the south staircase, which is going to take you to the third floor; the floor that contains theMagic Key. There are two things on this floor of note: apuzzle you’ll need to solveto open the door to the chamber, and you’ll need todefeat the boss in that chamberto get the key.

The Puzzle And The Boss

As for the puzzle, activate the button on the far right of the floor first, and thebutton on the far left of the floor second. That will open the chamber to the boss.

For the boss’s part, focus on taking down the two minor enemiesas fast as you can, before focusing on the boss. This will cut down the damage they can do each turn, making the boss alone not much of an issue.

Once they’ve been defeated, you canobtain the Magic Key from the chest on the right.

How To Get The Ultimate Key

TheUltimate Keyis the last key you’re going to obtain, and with it, you’re going to be able tounlock every door in the game.

The Fading Jenny In Lanson

There are a couple of hints towards what you need to do to get the Ultimate Key inLanson, but they aren’t all necessarily clear that the Ultimate Key is what they’re hinting towards.

A man in the shop mentions that in order to get the Ultimate Key, you’ll need a specialBottomless Pot. Separately, there’s a Slime that tells you aboutEdina, and that it’simpossible to get into the castle without a Fading Jenny.

Luckily, there’s avendor a few steps away in Lanson that sells Fading Jenny, and you’ll only need one to do what you need to do. Once you’ve bought the Fading Jenny, start your journey towards Edina, located on anisland in the northwest of the map.

Completing The Puzzle In Edina

Once you’ve sailed to Edina, you’ll want to use your Fading Jenny. It’ll turnyou and your party invisible, and allow you to walk by the guard that wouldn’t let you in otherwise. Once you’re in, you don’t need to worry about staying invisible.

Once inside, head down the staircase located on the left. This will take you down into a room with a rock puzzle. It’s an extremely simple puzzle, requiring you to move all three rocks on the pressure plates at the end of the area.

Once you’ve finished the puzzle, the giant door at the far end of the room will open, and you’ll be able to enter and open the chest, obtaining the Bottomless Pot. Inside the Pot is a note, leading you to where you need to go next: theShrine of the Shallows.

How To Use The Bottomless Pot

To get to the Shrine of the Shallows, you’ll need tosail east from Edina, over the top of the western continent, andto the large gap in the north between the two continents. Here, there will be a large outcrop of rocks stretching out from the sea;use your Bottomless Pot where prompted, and the sea will drain enough to reveal a Shrine entrance.

The Shrine Of The Shallows

Once inside the Shrine of the Shallows, head into that initial room, and thefirst chest will contain the Ultimate Key.
