Dantarg was the mightiest of theRomancing Saga 2’s Seven Heroes in terms of raw physical strength. Where the others fought to save the world, he was in it for the thrill of battle and the challenge of seeking ever-greater foes. The monster that he’s become in the centuries since isn’t all that different.

Dantarg is one of the first Heroes that you can encounter, but if you aren’t ready to face such a mighty foe he can trample right over you. While it’s possible to beat him on the first try, it might take a second attempt to overcome the scourge of Nazelle.

Empress Agnes first encounters Dantarg in Ludon Highlands in Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven.

Where To Find Dantarg

Dantarg wanders theNazelle region, south of Ludon. You’ll need to complete the following quest chains in townssouth of Avalonin order to reach his hunting grounds:

Once you’ve liberated the Gemstone Mine in Tefal, you’ll be able to proceed to Ludon Highlands, which is the land route to Nazelle. You’ll find Dantargblocking the southern exit. You can’t miss him - he’s agiant centaur.

a Mercenary selects an action during the first encounter with Dantarg in Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven.

If you don’t beat Dantarg on the first fight in Ludon Highlands, he replaces the boss fight in theChild And Mu Calf Cavefor theRescuing The Saigo Childquest. You’ll have to defeat him there to rescue the missing boy.

Dantarg’s Weaknesses

Dantarg is weak against the following attack types:

Additionally, he isconsidered a Beast, so theBeast Slayertech for Bows is essential for defeating him. Dantarg isresistant to Earth damage, and his fights take place on an Earth leyline that willheal him if too many Terrology spellsare cast, so leave Maces and Earth magic at home.

Strategy For Fighting Dantarg

As you can guess just by looking at him, Dantarghits like a truck.Equip your team for Physical Defense, and be sure to have at least one character withAir Screen. This serves two purposes; first, tobuff Physical Defensefor vulnerable teammates, and second, tocounter the Earth leylineand prevent Dantarg from regenerating.

Dantarg’s basic attacks tend to alternate between asingle-target kickandFissure Strike, which hits targets in a column. If you have a Formation that spaces out your units, that can help prevent Fissure Strike from hitting too many characters at once.

His major attack, indicated by awarning symbolon the command timeline at the top of the screen, isHeadbutt, which deals damage to the entire party regardless of their position. When in doubt, Defend if a Headbutt is incoming.

Have your archers fire away with Beast Slayer, while your casters stay on healing duty. Melee characters should focus on attacks likeShock Thrustthat have a Wind element, as these will help smother the Earth affinity from the leyline.

Use Moonlight and Life Water for healing - don’t cast Earth Heal!

Dantarg’s Second Phase

When his health bar reaches zero, Dantarg reveals a nasty surprise - hetransforms and refills his health halfway. His weaknesses are the same, but his stats are slightly better, and he hasmore status resistances.

A few rounds into the second phase, he’ll startcharging up for his ultimate attack, Raging Headbutt. This is an improved version of Headbutt that canwipe your partyon the first encounter unless everyone is fully healed and buffed. Surviving this attack is the single most important thing when it comes to beating Dantarg. If you’re able to do that, all you need to do is keep hitting him the way you’ve been doing the whole fight.

If Dantarg defeats you with Raging Headbutt in the first encounter, it doesn’t count as a proper defeat unless the Emperor hits zero LP. Instead, everyone in the party loses one LP, Dantarg insults you, and then leaves.

Dantarg’s Third Form

If you’re forced to fight Dantarg a second time, he’llstill be in his second form.In this fight, he’ll transform again when his health hits zero, revealing athird, even more powerful form. There is, however, an advantage to losing your first fight against Dantarg and facing him at his most powerful later; Dantarg’s third form (and only his third form) has achance to drop a powerful Axe called the Destroyer.
