Sonic X Shadow Generationsis a combo deal. A remaster of sorts for Sonic Generations, a brand-new adventure through Shadow’s past in Shadow Generations. Both games exist independently, with Shadow featuring gameplay, levels, and art to collect all of his own.
One of the unique collectibles for Shadow are the pages of his creator’s journal, Gerald Robotnik. There are 15 sets of pages to gather in total, though they are not locked away in chests like most other items in the game. Instead, Shadow has to actually hunt down these pages, and we’ll show you how.
What Is Gerald’s Journal?
Like Sonic has in Sonic Generations,Shadow has a Collection Roomdedicated to all the character profiles, artwork, and music tracks that can be unlocked across the many stages and challenges the game offers. Sat in one particular corner isGerald’s journal, just waiting to be refilled.
Gerald’s journal offers insight in his feelingson creating Shadow, how he succeeded, his hopes for his family, and the government and military interference in his work. It goes into much more detail than the brief snippets he offers in the story.
Much of the journal is heavily burned and severely censored, removing mentions of key names for you to fill in yourself. If you want to get the full story here, you’re going to have to findall 15 sets of pages.
How To Collect The Pages Of Gerald’s Journal
The vast majority of collectibles in Shadow Generations are unlocked in one of two ways -opening Collections Boxes(the chests hidden around White Space), orchasing down the notes from completed Challenge Acts. Gerald’s Journal is separate from these, as well.
The discovery of Gerald’s journal is a dynamic process. Its pages arefound across the open-world hub, White Space, carried by the flying capsules with three balloons.Only one of them will spawn at a time, and they will only ever hold one of the fifteen sets of pages, too. So where do you find them?
Well, they move around a lot.Where they spawn is randomtoo, sometimes even flying out of bounds of where Shadow can actually reach. The goal is todestroy the three balloons holding them up, causing the pages of Gerald’s journal to drop down directly after they are destroyed.
The Flying Capsules will not start spawning until Shadow hasexpanded White Space beyond Space Ark Colonyand unlocked the Doom Spears ability.
As such, ensure not to destroy the balloons in a place where you can’t reachor you’ll have to wait for the Flying Capsule to respawn. You need the Doom Spear ability to take them down, and the easiest strategy is toget to the height of the Flying Capsule or even higherand hold down the button for Doom Spears until all three balloons are popped. Rinse and repeat, as the structure never changes.
The pages are dropped in sequential orderas well with very few exceptions, so you don’t run the risk of missing any either.
Not all pages will appear until you have White Space fully expanded, soyou can wait to collect them until you have the story finishedas well.
Is There A Reward For Completing Gerald’s Journal?
Reading Gerald’s Journal should be a rewardin-and-of itself! It details Gerald’s feelings, his hope of saving Maria, of double-crossing a vengeful alien and a power-hungry military. It is filled with drama and heartbreak, hopes and dreams! That’s not good enough for you? Fair enough.
Alas,no such reward exists for completing Gerald’s journalbeyond the satisfaction of completing it. There’s not even a trophy to congratulate you on the momentous task. We’ve rewarded you witheach page listed abovethough, if tracking them down is taking too much time out of your day.
