In the style of anotherBioWareclassic, Mass Effect 2,Dragon Age: The Veilguardends with a series of choices to be made around sending companions off to perform specific duties during the final showdown. Preparing well and sending the best candidate will ensure you have enough support by your side to make it through.
We’ll do through every major decision, butbefore you speak to Morrigan at The Cobbled Swan, you need tomake sure every faction has at least two stars and every character is a Hero of the Veilguard(which means completing their quests). If this is not done, it ishighly likely you will suffer significant casualties in the final quests.
This is a major decision, asyou will not be able to use whoever you choose for the rest of the game. Therefore, you shouldchoose the character you intend to use least, or possibly like the least. We’ll get into exact outcomes inthe spoiler warning below.
Harding’s Physical damage makes her a good generalist, but that also meansshe’s not the best pick against any single enemy.Davrin’s Fire damage meanwhile is covered by Taash, so he’snot indispensableeither. They both offer Stagger, but in that sense they cancel each other out. Basically, it’s up to you.
If you wany to know the exact outcome, check out this spoiler explanation of this decision
This is the only decision that you cannot save everyone with. No matter what else you do in the game, how high your individual or faction approvals are, whoever you choose will die in battle to save the rest of the team. May their memory live on.
Should You Let Neve Or Bellara Take Down The Magic Shield?
Another major decision, you will also be without who you choose here for the rest of the game. Whilepersonal preferenceandyour own Rook buildcomes into it, wesuggest letting Neve take down the shield, asBellara’s Galvanizing TearandElectric damage can prove vital here. Again, we have the specific spoilers below.
Whoever you don’t choose will also be needed in the next set of major decisions you make, which we’ll tackle next. This meansif you send Neve, you willalso be without Lucanis for the next battle, as he needs to do Neve’s job.If you send Bellara, you willbe without Taash, as they need to do Bellara’s Job
Read on for the spoiler-ful consquences of letting Neve or Bellara work on the shield
Whoever you choose will be captured by Elgar’nan and become Blighted. However, they will survive this and can be rescued later in the game.
Who Should Do Each Job In The Last Gambit?
As you make your final arrangements, you need to consider not only who you want to take into the next battle with you, but who is the best fit for each role. There aretwo factorsthat must be hit for your choices to make it through unscathed:
Forthe magical wards, you shouldsend Emmrich, Bellara, or Neve, and this relies onthe Veil Jumpersfaction.
Fortaking out the Venatori master, you will need tosend Lucanis or Neve, meaning it isLucanis by defaultifNeve was captured. This relies on theLords of Fortune, and either theAntivan Crows or the Shadow Dragons, depending on whether you saved Treviso or Minrathous.
Fordisabling the Juggernaut construct, you will need tosend Taash or Bellara, meaningTaash gets the job if Bellara was captured. This relies onthe Grey Wardens faction.
This leaves you with either Harding or Davrin for the next battle, and one of Bellara, Neve, Taash, Lucanis, or Emmrich. If you have Davrin,it isbetter to send Taash against the Juggernautso you don’t have double Fire companions.
Who Should You Send To Help The Factions?
This final major decision involvessending one last character awayto assist with the allies you’ve assembled. Whichever one ofNeve or Bellara you sent away will refuse, wanting first-hand vengeance from Elgar’nan, but they are the wrong choice anyway. Here, you need tochoose either Harding or Davrin, whichever oneyou didn’t choose the first time. If every faction has two stars or moreand they area Hero of the Veilguard, they will make it through alive.
With all of these decisions, you shouldget the The Ones That Last Trophy/Achievement for keeping everyone alive. You know. Almost.
Trick Or Fight Solas
There isno major differenceto this outcome. If you choose tofight Solas, youdo not actually fight him. There is no more combat. The choice is simplywhat cutscene plays,andAchievements/Trophies are not impacted.
Thebest endingis if you havedefeated or convinced Mythaland can use the Fragment toconvince Solas to bind himself to the Veil willingly- you’re able to only get this ending if you havewitnessed every memoryandfought Mythal. This endingredeems Solas. If you choose tofight Solas, you canforce him into the Veilin a cutscene. If youtrick Solas, he will congratulate you as he realises he was bested and will betrapped in the Veil.
