InAge of Mythology: Retold, one of the most impressive pantheons is the Atlanteans. This pantheon includes gods: Kronos, Ouranos, and Gaia. While at first glance it may seem similar to the Greek pantheon, the Atlanteans have a very different playstyle.
Especially in the later ages, they boast powerful human and myth units. Kronos, in particular, is a god that allows you to move your buildings around the map as you wish, thanks to his god powers. If you’re looking for a strategy guide on how to play Kronos and which minor god choices to follow, you’ve come to the right place.
Kronos Overview
Kronos, one of the gods in the Atlantean pantheon, is typically focused on Siege and Myth units. One of his most important abilities is Time Shift, whichallows you to relocate any of your buildingsto a spot within your line of sight. However, this doesn’t happen instantly, and you’ll need to wait for a certain period.
Moving towers and palaces costs 50 percent of their original price, whilemoving other buildings is free. One of Kronos’s research upgrades is Temporal Chaos, which is related to Time Shift.
If you research this, you’ll be able toTime Shift more buildings simultaneouslyand further reduce the cost of shifting towers and palaces by 50 percent. This means shifting these structures will no longer be an economic burden.
If you’re playing with one of the gods from the Atlantean pantheon, you’ll build Manors instead of Houses. Manors are more expensive but provide more population. If you choose Kronos, the more Manors that are in range of your buildings, the faster they will be built. Each Manor increases the construction speed by 25 percent.
Another benefit Kronos offers is free extra Myth units. Normally, when you advance to the next age with any other god, you receive one free Myth unit aligned with your chosen minor god. With Kronos, however, you’ll receive two free Myth units.Lastly, for every Myth unit or Siege unit that dies or is destroyed, you’ll be refunded 20 percent of their cost.
Kronos’s god power is Deconstruction. While similar to Time Shift, it’s not the same. It allows you tochoose an enemy building and deconstruct it.The opponent gets refunded the cost of the building, but the structure is completely destroyed.
Minor God Choices
Leto seems like a brighter choice for Kronos players when moving to the second age. However, depending on the course of the battle and your needs, your choices may vary. When moving to the third age, both choices are quite attractive, but in the final age,Atlas becomes a solid choicedue to being both a good mythological unit and providing more bonuses to human units.
Still, before making your decisions, you should consider the strengths and weaknesses of your army and the opponent’s army.
Description
Prometheus
Honestly, Prometheus' Valor is not a very effective god power. If your economy is strong, you can already turn your human units into Heroes as you wish. His myth unit, the Promethean, pales a bit in comparison to the Automaton. However, in late game situations where you are struggling with gold resources, Prometheans might come in handy. The Hearth of Titans is a pretty nice upgrade asit reduces the cost of turning your human unitsinto Heroes by 50%. However, if the opponent’s army doesn’t contain many myth units, it’s not extremely necessary. Theft of Fire is also a useful ability if you plan on producing Hero Citizens, asit increases their gather rate, giving you an economic advantage.
Leto
Spider Lair is not a very practical god power. It can’t be said to be very useful in battle, as the spider eggscan be quickly destroyed by the opponent’s army.Even if you set it up beforehand, it’s not certain whether a human unit from the opponent’s army will pass over it. Automatons are highly effective units for early and mid-game, and theirability to repair each other makes them economical.Since you’ve chosen Kronos, you’ll already start with two Automatons when moving to the second age. With Hephaestus' Revenge, you may boost their hit points andgive them a regeneration rate.Volcanic Forge is a defensive upgrade that’s very good, making all your human units, Heroes, and Automatons even more effective.
Hyperion
Unlike the ineffective god powers of the first age, Chaos is highly effective. It temporarily turns the opponent’s army hostile to everyone, giving you the chance to shift the battle advantage in your favor. The Satyrs as myth units are also a very effective choice, and sincethey require Wood to train, while most mythological units require Gold, you can train plenty of them. Heroic Renewal is a great option asit allows your wounded Heroes to heal.
Rheia
Rheia’s god power, Traitor, may not always be useful. It entirely depends on the opponent’s army. For instance, if there’s a highly effective unit in the opponent’s army, turning it to your side can be impactful, but in an army made up of entirely human units, it might not be as useful. Behemoth is a myth unit trained with Food, so if your economy is strong, you can train plenty of them. Horns of Consecration can be useful in long-lasting games or team games, but in games that are likely to end quickly, it can’t be said to be very practical. Daktyloi is avaluable research upgrade on maps with lots of naval battles.Healing your damaged ships and wounded myth units can be quite effective.
Helios
This god’s power, Vortex, isn’t always effective. It’s useful on large maps, but if you don’t have line of sight near the opponent’s base, it won’t be of much use. If you’re already under attack by the opponent, suddenly sending your army to the opponent might not be the best idea. On the other hand, it has the potential to yield effective results when used on island maps.Centimanus is a very powerful myth unit, and his special attack can knock back opponents. With the Titanomachy upgrade, his attack increases by 50%. Mirror Tower is an extra defensive tower and is good for your defense, but in a game that has dragged into very late stages, its impact might not be too significant.
Atlas
Implode is more practical compared to Vortex. However, you shouldbe careful as it may damage your own army.Similarly, Atlas’ myth unit, Argus, can kill human units with single attackthanks to its special ability. With Guardian of Io, you can further reduce the charge time of this special ability. Devotees of Atlas is also a great upgrade. If you have Fanatics in your army(which are very effective units), it increasesboth their speed and attack speed based on how much HP they have lost. It’s a very good upgrade. Titan Shield is another upgrade that makes the already effective unit, Destroyers, even more defensive.
General Tips
Make Room For Siege And Myth Units In Your Army
Thanks to Kronos' power, 20 percent of the cost of each destroyed Siege and Myth unit will be refunded to you. Therefore, you shouldalways include these types of units in your army.In the early ages, armies focused on Automatons or Prometheans will be highly effective.
Automatons are useful because they can heal each other, and Prometheans are practical since they split into two after they die.
Deconstruct Is Effective In Mid Or Late Game
There’s little point in using your Deconstruct god power early on. Since the building cost is refunded to the opponent, they will simply rebuild it. Instead, save it for when you’re launching a major assaultand use it on offensive buildings like Fortresses or Palaces.
Alternatively, if you’ve already dealt with offensive buildings, you canuse this power on military buildings to prevent the opponent from producing units. While using it, consider the state of your army. If your army is composed mostly of human units, using this power on a Temple is also a good choice.
Capture Key Areas With Time Shift
On maps where resources are concentrated in one area, Time Shift is highly effective. You cansurround the resources with offensive structures.Similarly, on water-based maps, you can use your ships' line of sight to build military structures on the opponent’s shores and create an army there.
On large maps, after launching an attack on the opponent, you canbuild a military structure nearby to train reinforcements for your army. This will make your siege even more effective.
