Deadlock’s selection of characters can often urge players to play with their teammates or choose a playstyle that’s effective in co-op situations. Fortunately, a hero like Mirage becomes a blessing for those looking to push lanes all by themselves and use the map to their advantage.
Mirage’s incredible ability to teleport to friends or foes indirectly makes him a highly mobile character. Moreover, his long-range mastery keeps you safe at the backline, giving you ample opportunity to strategize effectively at range. Add to that a variety of abilities for several playstyles, and you have a wonderful addition to Deadlock’s existing roster.
Deadlock is in alpha, so everything in this guide is subject to change in the future.
Mirage Overview
It would be unsurprising to see Mirage quickly climb the charts and become the most-picked hero in Deadlock soon. The biggest reason for this ishow versatile his kit is, which opens up endless possibilities for you to build a distinct playstyle for yourself. His abilities have great damage output, let him be extremely mobile, stay safe throughout fights, and also push a lane all by himself.
Mirage has a maximum vitality of 550. His weapon feels quitesimilar to Haze’s, and delivers 51 damage per second (DPS), with a bullet damage of 18. His gun feels fairly accurate at range, andit’s ideal to use when taking out opponents from a great distance.
How you play him iscompletely up to you, but some key upgrades and items help him make the most of his abilities. Once you’ve made up your mind regarding how you wish to play him, understanding and applying his abilities in the game becomes simpler.
What Are Mirage’s Abilities?
Before you master Mirage’s abilities, it may take a while to understand how each ability shapes his overall gameplay. For instance, his most basic ability - Tornado - launches him forward, turning him into a tornado that can take out a group of enemies. It’s not as powerful at first, butcan knock enemies off their balance, leaping them up in the air. This makes it a viable option when you’re farming souls during the early stages of the game.
Fire Scarabs often act as your little companions that give you a taste of wielding a new weapon for a few seconds. These work best on enemies that have a large health bar. Tanky heroes can become relatively easier to kill with your Fire Scarabs, once the ability is upgraded enough.
You can use the Fire Scarabs ability as “emergency rounds” in case you need to reload your default weapon.
Description
Tornado
You transform yourself into a tornado, leaping forward and damaging any enemy that’s in your way. You also toss them in the air for a while.
Fire Scarabs
Upon activation, fire scarabs surround you, andthey can be launched one after another. However, you may only apply one scarab to the same enemy.
Djinn’s Mark
When applied on a target, your shots apply an increasing multiplier. Upon its completion, the target will suffer Spirit Damage and also be revealed on the map for a short while.
Traveler
Target an ally or foe on the minimap, andteleport directly to them. You gain movement speed as well as a slight buff in fire rate until you reload your weapon again.
Djinn’s Mark, compared to other abilities, will take some time to get used to. After all,you need to have a lot of map awarenessand know which enemy you wish to target. Doing so will help you focus on getting the kills that benefit the team, instead of normal eliminations that don’t work in your favor.
Traveler stands as Mirage’s spotlight ability, allowing him tocover large distances on the map. This can feel a little tricky at first, and deciding whether it’s a friend or foe you wish to teleport to can give you a big advantage. There are many ways of using this ability to your advantage, but it’s worth upgrading early on and to its fullest potential as the game progresses.
Upgrades And Builds For Mirage
Throughout a match, Mirage canexperience different playstylesas part of his gameplay. From being a strong lane pusher to flanking enemies, you’re ideally focusing on each ability, and purchasing items accordingly.
Thankfully, Mirage’s base damage is good enough to work without any items in the early game. However, you want toensure that your Spirit damage makes the most of it, and the items you purchase will do it for you.
As the game progresses, keeping Mirage’s vitality up is an important thing to do. Items that give him the needed buffs can help him stay alive for longer, and aim for bigger lane pushes even if an enemy team is right in front of you.
Items
Early Game: Focus on building damage output.
Extra Spirit, Spring Boots, Mystic Burst, Restorative Shot, Hollow Point Ward and Headshot Booster.
Mid Game: Focus on increasing mobility and vitality.
Ricochet, Enduring Speed, Improved Spirit, Enchanter’s Barrier, Soul Shredder Bullets and Mystic Shot.
Late Game: Focus on sustaining vitality and damage output.
Ethereal Shift, Siphon Bullets, Warp Stone, Spiritual Overflow, Superior Duration, Diviner’s Kevlar, and Magic Carpet.
Mirage’s ability to teleport shines during the later stages of the game. To make sure he’s well-equipped for this, something like the Warp Stone and Superior Duration can help him stay focusedon the fight, rather than worrying about being defeated by stronger enemies. In addition to these items, use certain situational ones you’re able to buy once you have enough souls.
What’s The Best Playstyle Strategy For Mirage?
When playing as Mirage, start thinking along the lines of, “What more can I do?”. You see,his abilities are curated in a way that improves your existing playstyle. For this reason, it can be worthwhile investing in Djinn’s Mark early on, to ensure his damage output stays consistently high when crossing paths with tougher enemies. Every other ability can then be upgraded based on how you like to play him.
Use Djinn’s Mark For Increased Damage
Upgrading this ability will give you the confidence tomark important enemies before you start shooting at them. Instead of dealing damage like you normally would, Djinn’s Mark will give your damage a significant boost.
Use Tornado For Farming
While Tornado may seem like a great ability for crowd control, it can be particularlyuseful when farming souls early in the game. Not many enemy heroes will target you, since they’re busy farming as well, and Tornado can help you push a lane better and kill minions when doing so.
Use Fire Scarabs For Damage Against Tough Heroes
Fire Scarabs can be used one by one on an enemy hero you’re not fond of. These do a lot of damage, and give you a chance topick targets that have higher vitality compared to you. This can even intimidate players with this ability and the next time they try to fight you, they’ll think twice before attacking.
Use Fire Scarabs against tanky heroes like Viscous, Mo And Krill, and Abrams.
Use Traveler For Flanking Or Support
The fact that you’re able to use this ability toquickly teleport to a friend or foeopens the doors to several opportunities. Once you’re strong enough, you can flank an enemy team and take them by surprise. Or, if a friend needs your help, simply teleport to them and fight alongside them. It’s time for you to decide - what kind of Mirage are you?
