InAge of Mythology: Retold, there are many pantheons and gods for you to try. Among them are the mighty and fierce Norse gods, as well as the familiar Greek gods. When the game was first released years ago, it only featured Greek, Egyptian, and Norse gods. Later, the Atlantean gods were introduced, adding the first new pantheon to the original trio.
The campaign storyline progressed with these Atlantean gods, focusing on the war between Gaia and Kronos. Although Oranos doesn’t take center stage in the story, he’s quite different from the others. If you’re up for it, why not give him a try?
Oranos Overview
Oranos, one of the Atlantean gods, focuses on Vision and Mobility. However, his most effective feature is the Sky Passages. Initially, you don’t have the ability to build an unlimited number of Sky Passages, but as you advance through the ages, you gain the ability to construct more.
Sky Passages work similarly to the Underworld god power of Apollo, a minor Greek god. Once you’ve built at least two Sky Passages, your units can teleport between them, eliminating the need for walking. They are also quite affordable, costing only five favor.
Unfortunately, Oranos’ other abilities aren’t as remarkable. Firstly, all of Oranos’ units have an additional four line of sight. Thismakes your Oracles more effectivecompared to other Atlantean gods. If used strategically, you can gain insight into enemy troop movements and when they will take action.
Another of Oranos’ abilities is that units you damage remain visible for 25 seconds. This helps intracking damaged enemy units.Additionally, you may use your fast units to hit and run, gaining information on the enemy’s army composition and numbers.
If you’ve chosen Oranos, one of the research upgrades available is Empyrian Speed, which increases the movement speed of all infantry units by ten percent.
Oranos’ god power is Shockwave, which sends enemy units within a small area flying into the air, stunning them for a few seconds.Although brief, this ability can be crucial in turning the tide of battle. During those few seconds, you can either deal as much damage as possible to the stunned units or use the time to retreat.
Minor God Choices
Oranos’ minor god choices need to be made carefully since his own powers aren’t particularly strong. If you choose Oceanos, you may have toplay defensively until the third age. However, in return, you’ll gain strong healing myth units if you choose Oceanos.
In the third age, you gain powerful myth units and upgrades, and with Sky Passages, you can overpower your opponent. AlthoughHekate may seem like the better option in the final age, you should analyze the state of both your army and your opponent’s before making your final decisions.
Description
Prometheus
If you’re aiming for an offensive approachwhen advancing to the second age, Prometheus is the right choice. This is because the other option, Oceanos, lacks an offensive myth unit. If you plan to use Sky Passages for raids, Prometheans will serve you well. With the Alluvial Clay research upgrade, you can make your Prometheans and their offspring even tankier. Theft of Fireincreases your Citizen’s work rate by 20%, but note that for this to work, those Citizens need to be Heroes.
Oceanos
Oceanos is not an offensive option in terms of myth units. His god power, Carnivora, is useful for defending your Sky Passages and other key structures in the early game. However, since it’s a stationary unit, it can be easily taken out by ranged attacks. Oceanos’ myth units, Caladria and Servant, are unique in that theycan heal both naval and land units. This makes Oceanos an excellent choice on maps where naval battles are inevitable. Additionally, the Bite of the Shark research upgradeenhances the power of Murmillo and Fanatic units, giving their attacks a bleeding effect. Another infantry upgrade, Frontline Heroics, helps you produce these units at a lower cost, easing your economy.
Hyperion
Hyperion’s god power, Chaos, temporarily turns a group of enemy units hostile to everyone. Combined with Oceanos' Shockwave god power, it can be extremelyeffective in delaying and disrupting enemy forces.Satyrs, with their powerful ranged attacks, are also an excellent myth unit choice. If you chose Prometheus in the previous age, Hyperion’s Heroic Renewal research upgradecan grant regeneration to the heroesyou’ve created. Sons of the Sun allows all your existing and future Oracles to automatically become heroes, although this upgrade isn’t particularly game-changing.
Theia
Theia’s god power, Hesperides Tree, allows you to produce a limited number of Dryad myth units. Be sure toplace these in well-defended areas, as enemies could take advantage of them. The tree alsoheals your myth units, making it a good choice for regeneration if you didn’t choose Oceanos in the previous age. Thea’s other myth unit, the Stymphalian Bird, is a flying unit, and since it’s trained using wood, you can easily create many of them. As a flying unit, it can complicate things for some enemy units. On naval-heavy maps, Daughters of Sea is a useful upgrade, allowing Nereids to use their special abilities more frequently.
Helios
Helios' god power,Vortex, may not be as useful.Since Oranos already grants access to Sky Passages, you already have an advantage in fast travel, and Vortex isn’t always a reliable god power.Centimanus is a powerful and durable myth unit, making it a good choice if you need a tanky unit. Mirror Towers provide additional defensive support to your other towers. The Halo of Sun upgrade increases the range of your Fire Siphons and Fire Ships.
Hekate
Tartarian Gate can be a devastating god powerif it catches your opponents off guard. The demonic creatures that emerge from it, hostile to everyone, can create chaos for your enemy, though if you’re nearby, it could pose a risk to you as well. Lampades are fragile but powerful myth units. If you protect them well, they can be highly effective in your army. Mythic Rejuvenationgrants your myth units regeneration, making them harder to kill.
General Tips
Deploy Your Sky Passages Strategically
Remember that as you advance in age, the limit on how many Sky Passages you’re able to build increases. Offensively, from the beginning of the third age, build multiple Sky Passages around your opponent. In multiplayer games, placing Sky Passages in your allies’ defensive areasallows for efficient use of each other’s units.
Sky Passages are not very expensive, requiring only five favor. However, it is important to protect them well. ensure to surround them with defensive structures like Palaces and Towers.
Additionally, always have a Citizen in your army;when you launch an attack on the enemy, you’re able to build a Sky Passage nearby, allowing you to quickly send reinforcements from your base.
Sky Passages are also highly effective for protecting your Citizens. Citizens who stray far from the base for mining or hunting are vulnerable to raids. With Sky Passages, you can evacuate them without suffering any losses.
Don’t Underestimate Shockwave
While Shockwave may not seem like a powerful god power, it ishighly effective at scattering enemy units.During the stun, you can quickly retreat your forces or use the opportunity to launch an attack. Since it’s a cheap god power, you’ll be able to use it multiple times.
Caladrias Can Turn The Tide Of Battle
If you selected Oceanos for the Classical Age, Caladrias, despite having no attack, are exceptional healers. After training a few, they can heal both each otherand your damaged units. If you don’t want to send them to the battlefield, you can keep them at the base.Using Sky Passages, you can send your injured units back to the base to be healed by the Caladrias.
