Nothing stops progress through the dungeons inMetaphor: ReFantaziolike the loss of all your party’s MP. Persona veterans will find this to be a familiar pain; Metaphor’s MP troubles are synonymous with the SP resource management in Atlus' school-based IP.
The good news is that there are several ways to lessen your MP-based burden. Some are so handy, in fact, that you’ll seldom bump into Persona-tier roadblocks. We’ve compiled our favorite ways to restore (or maintain) your MP in Metaphor: ReFantazio, and we reckon you’ll find them just as handy as we did. Don’t let that dungeon-crawling end early!
The Mage Archetype’s Overworld Ability
This isthe best way to restore MPin Metaphor: ReFantazio, at leastin the early stretch of the game. Every Archetype has what is called aHero Passive; this is something forthe protagonist only as it’s often tied to overworld combat.
By overworld combat, we mean just that -fighting enemies when you encounter them on a map rather than a squad battle. TheMage Archetype’s Hero Passive is calledMagic Recovery.
With Magic Recovery, you’ll regain one MP for every enemy you stun or slay in the overworld. Now, yes, one MP is not exactly much. Butyou can spam this over and over by clearing and re-clearing roomswith weak enemiesto regain heaps of MP.
This is pretty much the only reliable way to ensure that you have little difficulty clearing the first major dungeon,Regalith Grand Cathedral, in a single day. Mind you, you don’thaveto do it one day, but wouldn’t it be nice to have as much free time as possible?
Steal-Farming
WhenHeismayjoins your party, you’ll have someone with theThief Archetype. Naturally, thieves possess theStealskill. When used,an attempt is made to pilfer an item from an enemy.
Not all enemies have items, and you won’t always be successful;success rate is dictated by the Thief’s Agility stat relative to the enemy’s, with a percentage chance added into the equation.
This makes Heismay the ideal candidate for stealing, as it happens. Makes sense!
At any rate, the idea is tofind enemies with Magla items and steal from them repeatedly.Magla Potionsand their upper-tier variants are designed to bescarce. You’re not expected to have more than a handful at a time.
One enemy we’ve seen players cite for this is thePapyrosin theGiant Sandworm’s Nestdungeon. We didn’t do this ourselves, but thiswouldbe a greatearly-ish source of theoretically unlimited Magla Potions.
Plunder Magic
This one’s pretty situational; it actuallyalso involves the Thief Archetype. Thieves learn thePlunder Magicskill atlevel 11. Forone MP, your Thiefsteals MP from an enemy. Needless to say,you get several times more MP than you expended.
So long as you have that single magic point on tap,you can use this plenty of times to restore all your MPthroughout several battles. The obvious down side is thatthis will only aid the Thief, but if you want to get real dedicated, you could always turneveryoneinto Thieves.
Heal With Your Knight
File this under “things we didn’t expect to be so useful.” TheKnight Archetype’s base class, the titular Knight, learns theFirst Aidskill at level 5.
First Aidprovides weak healing for one ally, and is only usable from the menu. That sounds pretty crummy when we put it like that, right? But here’s the thing -how often are you going to use your Knight’s MP stockpile, otherwise?
Certainly, the Knight will need some MP for moves likeJump Thrust. But relative to an actual Healer? For two MP, you can top off your party’s HP on a routine basisfrom a pool of magic points that will often be left by the wayside, otherwise.
HP restoration itemsare obviously even better about preserving MP, since, well, they don’t involve spendinganyMP, whatsoever. Butmoney can be scarce in Metaphor, especially early on, soit can be difficult to carry enough of these to never require spellcasting.
