InFrostpunk 2, increasing Crime creates all sorts of problems for you. You will have colony-wide protests, murders, brawls, and other negative impacts that decrease the Trust meter, and, if you let it linger for too long, you will then be thrown out of the colony.
While there are multiple ways to control Crime, it is essential to learn as many methods as possible to reduce it. With a smaller population at the start of a run, the colony’s needs are fewer. However, as your colony grows, Crime risks increase over time, and you need all the means to reduce Crime.
How To Reduce Crime
Goods, shown by apot icon in the resource barat the top of your screen, are an important resource you need to ensure theystay in surplus production. When you fail to produce enough Goods for your citizens in the colony, people begin to fight each otherover its possession.
Thiscauses a rapid increase in Crimeover time and thegreater the Goods scarcityyou have in your colony, the faster the Crime buildup.
Researching Building Ideas
As youestablish more Industrial Districtsand supply them with Materials, you willstart meeting the Goods demandin your colony. However, you will still need to prevent Crime from getting out of hand, and researching the following buildings inthe Idea Treeis the best place to start.
City
Industrial District
TheLabor Camp is a Radical ideaand is not available for research from the get-go. In orderto unlock this, you will need toprogress the colony with the ‘Merit’ Zeitgeist ideology.
Have More Guards
As youconstruct more Watchtowers, you alsoincrease the presence of Guard Squadsin your colony, and they help you reduce Crime significantly. The more Watchtowers you build, the larger your Guard Squad, which can be seen by theshield icon at the top right of the resource tab.
Having more Guards Squads is essential for reducing crime within the colony. Additionally, you can increase your Guard numbers by passing the following ‘Rule’ Laws.
How To Use
Guard Enforcers
Select a Housing District with a Watchtower built in it and then click ‘Mobilize Watchtower Squads’ ability to reduce Crime faster.
Steward’s Militia
Once the law is passed, select a factionof your liking and go with the ‘Enlist to Steward’s Militia’ option. Then click a Housing District with a Prison building installed in it and activate the ‘Conscript Inmates’ or ‘Mobilise Prison Wardens’ ability.
Martial Law
This law further increases the efficiency of all Guard Squads in your colony and speeds up the reduction of Crime significantly.
Pass Society Laws
Besides the ‘Rule’ Laws, you can pass the following Society Laws to reduce Crime in the game:
Available by default
Guard Immunity
This is a Radical idea that requires progressing the ‘Tradition’ ideology, and then researching the ‘Guard Immunity’ under the ‘Society’ Idea Tree to unlock it.
Human Experimentation
Criminal Reparations
To unlock this law, you will need to progress the ‘Reason’ ideology, and then research the ‘Human Experimentation’ under the ‘Society’ Idea Tree.
Frostland Deportation
Another Radical idea that can be unlocked after progressing the ‘Tradition’ ideology, and then researching the ‘Frostland Deportation’ under the ‘Society’ Idea Tree.
Sterilization
Crime Elimination
Progress the ‘Reason’ ideology first and then research the ‘Sterilization’ found under the ‘Society’ Idea tree will unlock this law for enforcement.
Public Executions
Progress the ‘Tradition’ ideology, and after that research ‘Public Executions’ found under the ‘Society’ Idea tree will unlock this law.
Transfer Population
Afterconstructing the buildings, and passingsome orall lawsas listed above, you should be able toreduce the Crime or make it Absent. However, as yourpopulation growsinside the main colony, it willstart increasing Tension, whichcontributes to rising Crime.
Therefore, in situations like these, it is in the best interest tobuild another outpostbyexploring Frostlandvia the Frostland teams of the Logistics District andtransferring some portion of your growing populationfrom the main colony to the outpost.
This will ensure thecitizens of your main colonyare nottroubled by a higher populationgrowth percentage or the number of people living there.
Effects Of Uncontrolled Crime
Uncontrolledcrime significantly impacts the population, drasticallyreducing the overall growthpercentage of new people joining your colony. A larger population is essential foraccelerating the production ofseven resources:Oil, Coal, Food, Prefabs, Heatstamps, Materials, and Goods.
Having alarger populationalso enables you topopulate outposts andresource settlementsforinfinite supplies, an opportunity lost when Crime is left unchecked.
Another consequence of risingCrime is increased Tension. You can monitor how troubled your citizens are by hoveringover the orb and the bottom tab, which displays indicators that contribute to Tension. WhenTension is high, expectcity-wide unrest, including protests, and fights, which result ininjuries and even deaths.
All of these factors emphasize the importance of controlling crime and making it a top priority throughout your run in the game.
