InFrostpunk 2, Disease is one of the indicators you need to keep an eye out for, as its unchecked spread will stop people from going to work and, in worse cases, will kill the population slowly. A healthy colony ensures people can work efficiently, resources are produced on time, and society thrives.
Maintaining a Disease-free colony in a frozen world is no easy task, but there are steps you can take to minimize the risk. In this guide, we’ll cover the key buildings to construct and laws to pass to help keep Disease at bay and ensure your citizens remain healthy.
How To Reduce Disease
Cold, Hunger, and Squalorare three factorscausing Disease in your colony. If you fail to meet demand for all three factors, the Disease spread will accelerate. ProvidingHeat will keep Coldin check, providing enoughFood will tackle Hunger, and maintaining decent working conditions will reduce Squalor.
If you manage tocontrol all three of these indicatorsat all times, the chances ofcitizens getting Sickwill begreatly reduced, allowing them to stay productive. In any case, you should alwayscheck the Syringe iconnear the bowl icon in the upper resource bar, a tooltip will tell you thestatus of the Disease, whether it isStable, Growing, or Catastrophic.
Buildings
Thebest way to combat Diseaseis to prevent it fromspiralling out of controlas early as possible. By researching specific ideas inthe Idea Tree, you canunlock specialized buildingsthat will help treat Sick citizens quickly, stopping the spread before it reaches others.
Here are specialized buildings you need to research from the Idea Tree to keep yourcolony healthy.
Emergency Medical Hub
Housing
Hospitalsare the primarysource of curing the sickandreducing the Disease significantlyin your colony. Establishingat least one Hospital at the startof the game will be the best strategy to stop citizens from getting sick. However, you will need to build more Hospitals as your colony grows over time.
Hospitals, once built over a Housing District, give you a’Preliminary Triage' District ability. When you have a very high number of sick citizens in your colony, you canuse this option to cure a lot of peopleat a faster rate. However, the ‘Preliminary Triage’ District abilityis a double-edged sword, and using this has ahigh chance of many deaths.
ThePharmaceutical Testing Laboratorybuilding helpsreduce Diseasebymanufacturing medicine. When you build this facility, youunlock the ‘Boost Research’ District ability. Using this ability increases the research speed, which is excellent if you are rushing a particular idea. However, theeffect on Disease is reducedfor some time.
Radical Idea
In addition to the Hospitals, Pharmaceutical Laboratory, and Emergency Medical Hub thePanaceum Factoryis anotheralternative to reduce Disease significantly. However, this is aRadical ideaand is locked by default. To unlock it,you will need toprogress with the ‘Reason’ ideology.
Once you have unlocked this idea and researched it, you will need tobuild the facility in the Industrial District. The factory will produce health-boosting nutrients derived from corpses, which will be used to enhance the diet of the living.
Laws
Even after establishingone or two hospitals, you maystill need to take advanced measuresto reduce Disease in the game. By proposing and passing the following laws, you will further keep the Disease at bay in your colony.
Birthing Programme
Society: Procreation
This is a Radical idea that can be unlocked by progressing the ‘Reason’ ideology.

Medicinal Settlement
Frostland is full of opportunities where you mostly find resources to loot and bring back to your colony. However, if you have built a couple ofLogistics Districtsand sent multiple Frostland Teams toexplore the Frostland, there is a high chance you willfind a Medicinal settlement thathelps you cure the sick faster.
If you happen to stumble upon such points of interest in the frostland, connect the settlement using Trails with the main colonyand it willhelp reduce Disease.
Overall, Disease iseasier to controlwhen youhave a smaller population. However, as yourcolony grows, you will need to rely on a couple of hospitals to cure the sick andpass lawsthat stop the spread of Disease quickly. Thebuildings and the lawswe have mentioned aboveshould help you run a Disease-free colonyregardless of the population size.
