The story inThe Casting of Frank Stonebegins from Sheriff Sam Green’s perspective, and ultimately, he believes he has stopped Frank Stone. Unfortunately, as the chapters progress, Frank Stone re-emerges at Cedar Steel Mill, endangering the lives of all the characters.
If you want everyone to survive, you need to take precautions, as the uncertainty of not knowing when each character might die creates a significant challenge. Whether you aim to keep the 1980 or 2024 versions of the characters alive, this guide provides all the information you’ll need.
How To Save Jaime
Since Jamie doesn’t appear in 2024, you only need tokeep him alive in the 1980 timeline.You usually save Jamie while controlling other characters. Here are all the events that could kill Jamie and how to avoid them:
Chapter 5
The Phantom of Cedar Steel
The first time Jamie’s life is in danger is after they discover Frank Stone’s lair. After finding the lair, Robert will go to inform his father. Once you interact with the jar on the shelf in Frank Stone’s lair, Frank Stone will appear before Jamie and Chris. You’ll have the options to CONFRONT or FLEE. If youchoose FLEE, Jamie will not be killed by Frank Stone. If you choose CONFRONT andJamie doesn’t have the firecrackershe obtained inChapter 3, he will be killed.
Chapter 9
Hunting Ground
If Linda fails to escape the wagon shedinChapter 7, she will be caught and hooked by Frank Stone. This won’t kill her, but it will trigger the Hunting Ground chapter in Chapter 9. In this chapter, Bonnie and Jamie will rescue Linda, but Jamie will fall while escaping.If you fail the quick time eventand button mash, Jamie will die.
Chapter 13
Murder Mill
If Chris decided to stay in 2024 or died during his attempt to return to 1980, Frank Stone will attack Jamie when he appears, attempting to crush his head. At this point,you must successfully use the camerawith Linda to ward off Frank Stone. If you fail, Jamie will be killed.
After Bonnie’s death, you will control Sam, searching for the surviving teenagers. When you find Jamie, he will be injured, and you’ll need to unhook him. If Frank Stone appears andyou fail to ward him off with the camera, he will kill Jamie. So, be cautious anduse the camera effectively.
How To Save Madi
The first thing you need to do to keep Madison alive is tosuccessfully activate the sarcophagusand not fail the QTEs in Chapter Eight. Then, inChapter 12,ensure not to take the talismanto keep Madison safe. Here are all the details on how to save Madison:
Chapter 8
Mystery Manor
After Madison goes looking for Stan, she will enter a circular room with green lights and a sarcophagus. To free Chris from the sarcophagus,you need to solve the puzzlein the room.If you fail twiceat using the switch next to the sarcophagus after solving the puzzle, Madison will die.
Chapter 14
The Massacre at Gerant Manor
Frank Stone will inevitably make his way to 2024 after the film screening.If Madison took the talisman from the bedroomin Chapter 12, Augustine will hypnotize her. Madison will begin walking towards Frank Stone. If Sam has a gun(and Linda didn’t take it inChapter 8),you’ll have one chance tosave Madi by shooting herto break the hypnosis. Therefore, ensure Sam is carrying the gun. Alternatively, you can avoid this situation entirely bynot giving the talisman to Madi.
After escaping the film screening room and after Stan’s death, everyone will panic and run from Frank Stone. If Madi is alone at this point, she will need to fix the generator and reach the elevator.If she fails to do this within five minutes,Madi will die. To prevent this, find the necessary parts in the room quickly.
If Madi escapes alone and manages to fix the generator within five minutes, she will head towards the elevator. At this point, you will have the option to go up or down.Do not go downunder any circumstances. If Madison goes down, she will die no matter what. Choose to go up to save Madison.
If Madi escapes with Linda and they take the elevator to the upper floor, Sam will come to help them in the Atrium, provided he is still alive. At some point, Sam’s life will be in danger, and you will have the option to either Flee or Try To Help.If you choose to help Sam, Madison will die. Therefore,you should choose to fleeto keep Madison alive.
How To Save Stan
Unfortunately,you can only keep Stan alive until Chapter 14.No matter what you do, you cannot prevent his death in Chapter 14. After Frank Stone arrives, he will kill him. However, you can save him from death twice, keeping him alive for at least part of the final chapter.
If Stan has the talisman and Sam saves him from Frank Stone, Sam will throw the talisman to distract Frank Stone, but this won’t work, and Stan will die.
Chapter 10
In The House of Madness
If Chris decides not to return to his own time and remains in 2024,Stan’s life will be in danger. The rings on the platform in the room will start spinning, and they will hit Stan.If you fail the quick time event, Stan will die.
Frank Stone will inevitably come to 2024 from the film screening room.If no one has taken the talismanfrom the bedroom in Chapter 12, Frank Stone will try to catch Stan. In this case, you have the option to sacrifice Sam to save him, but if you do so, Sam will die. Sincethere is no way to save Stanin the later part of this chapter, if you want to save Sam, you can let Frank Stone kill Stan.
How To Save Chris
To keep Chris alive after she arrives in the 2024 timeline, you have two options: either send her back to 1980 or keep her in 2024. If she returns to 1980, you’ll need to successfully ward off Frank Stone with the camera to ensure her survival.
To keep her alive in 2024,you must take precautions in the earlier chapters.Make sure that Chrisdoes not take the cursed pocket mirror or the talisman.Here are the details to save Chris:
If Madi is still alive and Chris decides to return to her time, an event will put her life at risk. First, Chris will break the switch and try to grab the pole.If you fail the button mash sequence, Stan will help you. Afterward, before Chris leaves, Stan will fall. At this point, you’ll have two options: help Stan or leave.If you choose to leave, Chris will die in the next chapter. Therefore,you must either succeed in the button mash when grabbing the pole or help Stan, which may delay Chris and result in her staying in 2024.
If Chris successfully returns to 1980, Frank Stone will attack her, attempting to crush her head with his foot. At this point, you mustsuccessfully use the camera with Lindato ward off Frank Stone. If you fail, Chris will die.
After the film screening, Frank Stone will inevitably make his way to 2024. If, in Chapter 12, Chris decides to stay in 2024 and takes the talisman from the bedroom, Frank Stone will try to capture her. In this case, you can sacrifice Sam to save her. However, if you do so, Sam will die. If you don’t save Chris, she will die. To avoid this,make sure that neither Chris nor any other characters take the talisman.
If Chris is in 2024 and everyone has escaped from the film screening room and used the elevator, Chris will return to the projection room. At this point, she will approach the projection screen where Frank Stone emerged. To save Chris, you mustprevent her from entering the screen.If you choose to go into the screen,she must not be carrying the talisman or the cursed pocket mirror.If she is not carrying these items, she can return to her time safely. However, if she has them, Chris will die.
How To Save Sam
Sam’s life can be at risk in both the 1980 and 2024 timelines, as he faces several deadly situations. However, untilChapter 13, Sam isn’t in immediate danger. To keep him alive in Chapter 13, all you need to do isuse the camera effectively.In Chapter 14, simplyavoid sacrificing Sam and succeed in the QTEsto ensure her survival. Here are all the details on how to save Sam:
After Robert and Sam arrive at Cedar Steel Mill and discover Bonnie’s dead body, you’ll control Sam who will find the camera in the storm drain. While moving through the storm drain and searching for the teenagers,if you fail to ward off Frank Stone with the camera, Sam will die. So, be extremely cautious while navigating the storm drain and use the camera carefully.
If Sam survives the storm drain and finds Linda, Frank Stone will enter the room and attack you. If Sam successfully weakens Frank Stone butfails during the second phase of the final stand, Sam will be killed. Therefore, in the second phase, you mustuse the camera correctly to stop Frank Stone.
Frank Stone will inevitably come to 2024 from the projection screen. At this point, a character will be captured. No matter who gets captured, you will have the option to sacrifice Sam. However, sinceStan is destined to die in this chapter, letting him die is the best option to keep others alive. To ensure Stan gets captured and dies, make sure no one picks up the talisman in Chapter 12. By not saving Stan when he gets captured,you’ll secure Sam’s life, at least for now.
If both Linda and Madison are dead, Sam will head to the chamber with the sarcophagus and leave this timeline. However,if Linda and Madison are still alive, Sam will come to help them. In this case,you must succeed in the QTEs.If you fail, Frank Stone will kill Sam or offer him to the Entity.
How To Save Linda
Linda is a character who doesn’t face the threat of death until the later chapters of the game. However, especially in the final chapter,there are many situations that can lead to her death.Here are the details you need to know to keep her alive:
If Sam finds Linda in the storm drain before dying, Frank Stone will enter the room and attack.If Sam fails to weaken Frank Stone, Linda will take the camera.If Linda fails to use the camera and also fails the following QTE, Frank Stone will kill her 1980 version. To prevent this,ensure Linda successfully uses the camerato stop Frank Stone. If she fails with the camera but succeeds in the QTE, Linda survives, and Robert will stop Frank Stone.
Frank Stone will inevitably arrive in 2024 through the film projector screen. One character will be captured at this point.If both Stan and Madi are saved from Frank Stone, he will capture Linda. If you don’t choose to sacrifice Sam, Linda will be consumed and killed. However, sinceStan is guaranteed to die in this chapter, letting him die is the best way to save the others. To ensure Stan’s capture,make sure no one picks up the talismanin Chapter 12. By allowing Stan to be killed, you secure Linda’s survival for the time being.
After escaping the film projector room and after Stan dies, everyone will flee in terror from Frank Stone. If Linda is alone or with Madi, you must fix the generator and reach the elevator.If you fail to do this within five minutes, Linda will die. To prevent this,quickly find the necessary parts in the room.
If Linda successfully fixes the generator within five minutes and escapes with Madi, her life will still be in danger. As they enter the elevator, Frank Stone will grab Madi. You will have two options: help Madi or flee. If you attempt to flee and don’t help Madi, Frank Stone will kill Linda quickly, and Madi will be sacrificed to the Entity. Therefore,helping Madi will save both Linda and Madi.
If Linda manages to escape and fix the generator alone, she will have two options in the elevator: go up or down. If you choose to go up, Frank Stone will follow you.Failing the QTEshere will result in Linda’s death. If you choose togo down and fail the skill checks,Linda will also die. Additionally, if Linda has Sam’s gun with her when going down, she will have a chance to shot Augustine.
If Linda escapes alone and uses the elevator to go up, Sam will come to help her in the Atrium, provided he’s still alive. At this point, Sam’s life will be in danger, and you’ll have the choice to either flee or try to help him. If you choose to help Sam, Linda will die. Therefore,it’s best to flee to keep Linda alive.
Lastly,if Linda doesn’t make a decision in time while in the elevator, whether to go up or down, Frank Stone will capture her and sacrifice her to the Entity. Make sure to decide quickly.
How To Save Bonnie
Unfortunately, in Chapter 13,Frank Stone will inevitably kill Bonnieby hooking her. There isno way to prevent this.However, the Bonnie who dies is the 1980 version of her. In the reality where Madi exists, Bonnie has survived until 2024.
