Metal Slug Tacticsgives the classic cast of arcade run-and-gunners a new home on a grid map, but you’ll only have a small squad when you start playing the game. Once you’ve gotten the hang of the game enough to beat Morden at least once, though, you’ll start to see some familiar faces filling the barracks.
By the time you have the full roster, there will be nine elite soldiers available for you to deploy against the Rebel Army, each with four different loadouts. Considering that each run allows a squad of three, that gives you 32,256 different squads!

Unlocking new characters is largely a matter ofsuccessfully completing runs- that is, reaching the end of the Sirocco City map anddefeating Morden’s giant robot,Jupiter King.Thenumber of regions you liberate before attacking Sirocco Citycan determine whether you unlock a new character, as will thenumber of characters who have beaten Mordenacross all your previous runs.
Here’s an easy breakdown of every character and their unlock requirements:
Win after completing two regions (including Sirocco City)
Win after completing all regions (including Sirocco City)
Win after completing three regions (including Sirocco City)
Win a run with every other character at least once.
How To Unlock New Character Loadouts
Each character’s standard loadout, calledClassic, is more than sufficient to get the job done, but by mixing and matching with other loadouts you can find some excellent synergies. Each character has one loadout thatrequires winning at least one run with them on your teamin order to unlock; the other two can bepurchased with Creditsby visiting Margaret at the base between runs.
You earn more Credits by performing Sync Attacks, especially those that result in frags (kills), so ensure your team works together, especially on long runs. Even if a Sync Attack would be overkill, it’s worth doing for the extra cash at the end of the campaign.
