Coal Town may seem like your everyday mining town inShin-Chan: Shiro And The Coal Town, but it hides more than a few secrets and unique features, one of which is Trolley Racing. In it, trolley racers go head-to-head on huge courses across the town, battling it out for victory and rewards.
Shin-Chan wants to get in on trolley racing, but it’s not as simple as just getting in any old cart, going down a straight line, and hoping you manage to go faster. The courses you’ll face are wild, your opponents bring them attachments capable of causing you problems, and you’ll have to get more points than them too.
What Are Trolley Races?
Trolley Races areunlocked after you completethe invention challenge,An Invention To Turn You Into An Adult, and its subsequent main missions,A Grown Up Seat and Trolley Race Debut.
In them, you’ll beracing a trolley caragainst another character in the storyaround a specific course while collecting pointsin the form of gems, and whoever has thehighest score wins the race.
They serve not only as akey story component, but also as a way toget large amounts of rarer junk items and gemslike Shafts, Tourmaline, and Placer Gold withouthaving to trade for themorbuy them from the Sundries Shoponce you’ve unlocked them for purchase.
All Trolley Bodies
You’llunlock the ability to get new partsfor your trolley car after completing themain mission, The First Victory, and they allow you tocustomize your trolleywith a variety ofbodies and attachmentsthat give youdifferent qualities or abilities, such as being able todestroy rock obstacles.
Trolley Bodies come inthree specialties: balance, speed, and free-cost. TheDo Your Best 001 and Save Your Best For Lastare balance types, offering aslower max speedthan the speed type cars, but aremore controllable and slow down easier.
TheGo Plane No.1, Ace Jet No. 2, and Hit Star No. 3are all speed types, whichaccelerate and maintain a higher max speed, but are muchharder to control and lose speed slowerthan balance types.
TheM-0 body excels at both balance and speed, but it doesn’t have any free-cost abilities like the Repeller BT or Tin Fish KG.
TheRepeller BT and Tin Fish KGare free-cost types, and each of them specializes in giving youfree use of one mechanic:

You start with a handful of choices, but once youcomplete the sub-mission, Jyuroku’s Trolley Shop, and the sub-missionseries that follows it, Trolley Shop’s New Parts, you’ll getnew attachments and upgradesfor existing ones.
Front Trolley Parts
Two typesof trolley parts cango on the front of your trolley, theDrill Partand theRoller Part, and you can haveone of them equipped in the slotat a time.
TheDrill Partcandestroy the large rock obstaclesthat appear on certain courses and can also beused to hit the opposing trolleyandmake them lose points.
TheRoller Part pairs well with the speed-type Trolley bodiesand can let you keep up their high speeds with fewer penalties for hitting corners too fast.
TheRoller Partcan be used to allow you totake a curve without slowing down or taking a penaltyfor hitting it too fastif timed properly, but it can’t be used to damage opposing trolleys.

Youcan’t use any trolley parts the first time you do this course, since it’s a tutorial, but you can replay it with parts after.
Any combination of parts works on this map, and youdon’t have to worry about Yuta using any offensive partsagainst you either.
Olivine x3
20 Points: Turbine x5
40 Points: Agate x5
60 Points: Tourmaline x5
70 Points: Shaft x5
This course is unlocked after youbeat the Beginner’s Trial Course, and it’s another Easy level course thatintroduces you to course obstacles: a giant rock that will cause you tolose three points if you run into it.
It alsointroduces split paths, wheretwo different pathsare available andwhich one you go downis determined by atrack-switching mechanic.
Tracks with split paths generally offer aneasier path with fewer pointsand no obstacles, or apath with obstacles with more pointsfor you to grab.
You can use the Boost or Break Parts to help youspeed up or slow downto get the path you want before it switches.
All you’ll want to do on this track isavoid running into Tamakoand try to take theright path through the rockfor extra points, and theleft path with blue gemsto boost your score even more.
Beam Part or Shield Part
40 Points: Tourmaline x15
60 Points: Jade x15
80 Points: Turbine x10
90 Points: Shaft x5
This course isunlocked by beating the Pick A Lane Course, and this introduces you tobattling your opponentduring a trolley race.
It featuresa lot of tight cornersthat anyRoller Part can help you navigateif you aren’t able to slow down andplenty of placesfor you torun into your opponent or vice versa.
Depending on how you want to do the race, you can eithergo for the Beam Part and knock Tetsuo backbefore he can run into you, or use theShield Part to prevent him from running into youwhen the track crosses.
TheDrill Partalso works well forspeeding up to either run into Tetsuoand knock him out of the way, orkeep him from running into youwith a jolt of speed.
Boost Part or Boost Part Plus
50 Points: Turbine x10
90 Points: Fluorite x5
100 Points: Raw Sapphire x3
This course is unlocked after youbeat the main mission, Grandma’s Cooking, and it’s thefirst Normal difficulty courseavailable to you. Your opponent will be Toroku, and itcombines the themesof the previous two courses:battling and obstacles.
Toroku uses the Go Plane No. 1 bodyand is equipped with both the Boost Part and the Beam Part.
For this one, your best tactic in winning against Toroku is speed. The faster you are and thesooner you can get aheadof him, theless likelyhe is touse his Beam Part against you, and this will also mean youpick the point gems up first.
You also haveone rock obstacle to deal withat the track switch, and asingular jumpwith agold gem worth five points, but youcan’t reach itwithout the Boost Part Plus.
Focus onkeeping ahead of Toroku, eithershielding or using the Beam Partif he gets close to you, try and take the rock obstacle pathfor more points, and you’ll win out against him in the end.
Drill Part or Drill Part Plus
Agate x2
50 Points: Shaft x5
90 Points: Fluorite x10
110 Points: Amber x1
This one’s unlocked after youbeat the Thrilling Railway Slalom Course, and it’s all aboutgoing fast, with ahandful of curvesto keep you on your toes.
You’ll befacing Tamakoagain, andshe’s got the Save The Best For Last 002 Body, the Boost Part, and the Drill Part on her trolley, as there’sanother track switchwith two different paths: one with alarge rock obstacle, and another without.
SinceTamako doesn’t have a Shield Part, you’re free to use a Beam Part against her trolley and knock her back.
Each path hassix points available, but therock path has a shorter routethrough, so you’ll want totake that one if you canand avoid getting cut off.
Like always, you’ll want tokeep ahead of Tamakoso you canget the gold gemfirst, and as long as you don’t make too many mistakes or get overtaken, there isn’t much to worry about asshe doesn’t have an offensive part.
Roller Part or Roller Part Plus
Beam Part or Beam Part Plus
Boost Part Plus or Brake Part
Quartz x2
110 Points: Raw Sapphire x3
130 Points: Amber x2
This course gets unlocked bybeating the Herky-Jerky Speed Course, and you’ll be encounteringa lot of twists and turns, andmanaging your speedwhile dealing with them.
Tetsuo returns with the Ace Jet No. 2 Body, as well as the Roller Part Plus and Boost Part Plus, and this time youwon’t have any obstaclesto deal with, so it’s all abouttaking corners safely and using offensive partsagainst him.
Since Tetsuo prefers speed,he’ll often stumble over corners and end up losing pointseven though he has the Roller Part Plus.
You’ll havemore track switchesto deal with, and you’ll want totake the right pathas much as you can; it has atighter, damaging turn, but farmore points to grabthan the other.
After thepaths meet back up, be careful ofTetsuo coming from behindand hitting you, or elseyou’ll lose ten points. If he does hit you,use your Boost to try and hit him backbefore he goes around the corner andgets the gold gem at the endfirst.
Beam Part Plus or Shield Part Plus
110 Points: Tourmaline x15
130 Points: Raw Sapphire x2
150 Points: Amber x2
Like the course against Toroku, this one is unlocked during themain mission, A Fight You Can’t Lose, and you’llhave to beat it to continuethe story.
It’s thefirst Hard-difficulty courseavailable, and you’ll be going up against a Subordinate using anAce Jet No. 2 trolleywith theBeam Plus PartandBoost Plus Partattached to it.
This course introducesupper and lower pathways, with thelower one reachable if you fail to make a jump, and each of them has differing rewards, similar to the normal track switches.
Try tokeep to the upper pathway, as it hasmore points available, and as long as youkeep up your speed, you’ll beable to make the jumps.
If you opt to bring a Beam Part, you can use it tohit the Subordinate while he’s in the air, or before he makes a jump to knock him down to the lower path first.
The issue is theSubordinate’s Beam Part Plus, as he’ll try andhit you as soon as you’re within rangeof him, often when you’renear any of the jumps.
If you went for more defensive options instead, shielding or speeding upcan help youavoid the beams, andany type of Boost Partis key for reaching thegold gem at the largest jumpnear the end.
Do your best tostay ahead of the Subordinateorknock him down to the lower path, make sure toboost and get the gold gem at the final jumpnear the finish line, and you’ll beat him in this race.
Roller Part Plus or Gorgeous Roller Part
Barrier Part Plus or Beam Part Plus
Super Boost Part or Brake Part Plus
Turbine x2
110 Points: Shaft x5
130 Points: Jade x15
150 Points: Raw Sapphire x2
175 Points: Amber x2
This course isunlocked by beatingthe previous Hard Course,No Falls Allowed! Heaven Or Hell Course, and it’s all about making jumps and not getting knocked back by failing them.
Yuta returns with a Save Your Best For Last 002 Body, alongside the Boost Part Plus and Barrier Part Plus, so you’ll have totime your Beam Part wellor bring theSpecial Beam Part, as itslonger barrage can often outlast his barrier.
Themost important jumpis near the beginning, and it features agold gem and two blue gemsfor 11 points. You’llneed the Super Boost Part to get all threeif you time it at the very end of the ramp, but theBoost Part Pluscan stillget the two blue gemsat least.
Deluxe Barrier Part or Special Beam Part
120 Points: Fluorite x20
160 Points: Tourmaline x20
180 Points: Jade x20
200 Points: Amber x5
This final trolley course isunlocked by speaking to Discardson at the Large Watchtower, but it only becomes availableafter beating the final story missionat least once and getting acompletion star on your save file.
This course is essentially a Superboss and is thehardest one to beat. Discardson comes with hisM-0 Body, alongside theDeluxe Drill Part,Special Beam Part, andSuper Boost Part.
He’ll use all his parts as much as possible, especially theSpecial Beam Part, which he’llfire any time you end up within range of him, but thankfully, hedoesn’t have a Barrier Part, so you can do the same to him.
If youtime your own Beam Part and fire slightly before he will, you can cut off Discardson’s attack and knock him back at one time.
Getting ahead of Discardson is the keyto winning, alongsidemaking him fall to the lower pathwith fewer points.
You canmake Discardson start slower intentionallyby starting to slow yourself for a few moments, then speeding up suddenly.
Often, he’llspeed aheadof you, and it’ll beextremely difficult to catch upand still win, but it’s possible toget ahead of him by forcing a slower start.
Use your Boost Part strategically, asmost jumpsin the course have at leastone gold gem to get, and you’ll need as many as possible. Try to time it so you get aboost at the end of each jump, andtake the rock obstacle pathif possible; there arethree in a row, but it gives you18 Points.
If you’re having trouble with how often he attacks you, bring the Deluxe Barrier Part and focus on outspeeding himinstead by using the slow start strategy.
If Discardsondoes get aheadof you, try your best toknock him to the lower pathwith the Special Beam Part. He’ll still gain points, but themajority of the gold gems are onthe upper path, and they can help youattain a higher scoreeven if he’s ahead of you.
It may take a few tries, but withwell-timed Beam attacksand gettingall the gold gems possible, you can still beat Discardson in the race even if he’s ahead of you at times.
