The progression system inRomancing Saga 2: Revenge Of The Sevenis very unique, and that extends to the way you’ll learn new powers for your party members. Just leveling up the team’s weapon skills and spell schools isn’t going to cut it. Instead, you’ll need to rely on Glimmers - moments of inspiration that will strike characters in the midst of combat.

Glimmers are essential to unlocking the powerful attacks that you need to overcome the game’s strongest foes. No Glimmers means no new moves, so be sure to make use of them whenever you may.

How To Trigger A Glimmer

A character can learn a new Tech during battle as long as they meet the requirements for the move they’re trying to learn:

That last requirement can be tricky later in the game. Early on, thebasic attackfor a weapon is enough for most Glimmers, but more advanced Techs require a more advanced repertoire. For example, a Bow user can learn Rapid Volley off of Bow Attack, but must then use Rapid Volley if they hope to learn Rain of Arrows.

If all those requirements are met, any existing Techs that can trigger a Glimmer willhave a light bulb icon next to them. The larger the icon, the more likely it is that a Glimmer will activate if you use that move. Glimmer chancesscale with the power of the enemies you’re facing, so they’re more likely during boss battles, while fighting weak enemies can reduce Glimmer chances to zero, removing the light bulb altogether.

If you use a Tech that can trigger a Glimmer, there is arandomized chancethat instead of using the selected move, the character willdevelop and use a new move instead. The new move will be added to their Tech list, and they can continue to use it on subsequent turns.

If a Glimmer doesn’t trigger, you may keep trying until it does, provided you have enough BP to keep attempting the prerequisite move.

Spell And Defensive Glimmers

You can also get Glimmers for Spells and defensive abilities, but you havemuch less controlover these. Defensive abilities - including moves like Parry or Counter and Evasions that guarantee a specific enemy move will miss - have asmall chance to Glimmer when a character is attacked. The only real way to get these is to grind for them, so once you get them be sure to keep them on at least one character so that theyregister to the Training Hallfor anyone to use after the next time skip.

Spells, unlike physical attacks, don’t Glimmer during combat.Instead, if a character casts spells during a battle from an element that they have a high enough Skill in, they have asmall chance to Glimmer a new spell at the end of the fight.Again, your best bet is to consistently cast spells and attempt to raise Skill levels on your casters, then register the new magic to the Incantations Lab.

Maximum Number Of Techs And Spells

Each character can haveup to eight Techs, eight Spells, and four Evasionsequipped at once. You can change their loadout from the Training Hall and Incantations Lab in Avalon.

If a character learns a new power via a Glimmer but are already at capacity, theyget to keep it for the duration of the battle. After the fight, assuming they’re still alive, you’ll have tochoose powers to removeto make room for newly-learned ones, or give up the new ones altogether.

It’s best to give up moves that aremarked with a yellow medal, since these can be relearned at Avalon Castle for free at any time.

If you give up a move immediately, there’s agood chance that it will Glimmer againin subsequent fights. Be careful about this, as it can cause basic attacks to Glimmer into maneuvers that you don’t actually want. In these cases, it can be better to just make room for the new move so that it won’t keep Glimmering.
