The Crusader is one of the earlier classes that you can unlock inRomancing Saga 2: Revenge Of The Seven.By traveling to the neighboring kingdom of Cumberland and helping them in their hour of need, you’ll be able to call on the Holy Order, soldiers who have been fighting fiends for centuries.
Crusaders make a great addition to your retinue, so it pays to visit Cumberland as soon as possible. That said, you’ll want to be prepared for some dungeons and boss fights, as all is not well with your neighbor to the east.

How To Start The Problem Of Succession Quest
After you defeat the Vicar and liberate the Canal Fort, a time skip will move the Imperial Calendar forward. Once you choose a new Emperor, a court official will inform you that the King of Cumberland has requested a meeting. You’ll need tosail from Somon to Cumberlandto speak with him.
You can start the event chain at any time byspeaking to the ship captain at the docks in Somon.Ask him to take you to Cumberland’s capital city of Douglass, and you’ll be able to travel there from the World Map at any time thereafter.
Head to the castle andtalk to King Harold.He’ll introduce you to his youngest son,Thomas, then ask you to visit his two other children -Georgat Nerak Fortress andSophiain the town of Hofah. Both locations will open on the World Map, and you can easily travel there and speak to Georg and Sophia.
There’s aMemory Of The Seven Heroesin Cumberland Castle. Take a right as you leave the Throne Room, just before leaving the building. You’ll find the Memory Stone stashed in a basement.
Should You Choose Georg, Sophia, or Thomas?
Once you’ve met both of the adult children,talk to Harold again. He’ll invite you to a private meeting where he’ll ask which of Georg, Sophia, or Thomas should inherit the throne.Your decision here doesn’t actually matter, as the decision ultimately falls to Harold - he’s just looking for advice.
How To Find Thomas
The following morning, you’ll find the castle in chaos as King Harold has died overnight. Prince Thomas is missing, so your task is to find him.Leave the castleand turn left, heading to the farm in the northeast corner of town.
At the rear corner of the farm, you’ll find ahidden tunnel in the hedgesthat you may crawl through. Thomas is there; speak to him, and a guard will come to collect him, as Harold’s will names the boy as heir to the throne. The conversation will reveal thatMinister Cyfreetis responsible for the King’s death and is attempting a coup;fight the guards, then help Thomas escape.
You’ll be given a choice to bring Thomas toeither Georg or Sophiafor protection. Again, the choice only affects which town you need to travel to once you escape Douglass - both of his siblings are loyal and capable.
How To Beat The Duneworm
When you meet up with George and Sophia,tell them to retake the capitalwhile you deal with the fiends at the Great Wall. Travel to the Central section of the Great Wall andenter the tunnelthat’s been burrowed at the base. Fight your way through until you’re attacked by theDuneworm.
The Duneworm uses physical attacks exclusively, soequip your party with armor that protects them accordingly.The beast’s two moves areCrushing Fang, which deals heavy damage to a single target, andFissure Strike, which deals Earth damage in a column. You can mitigate the effectiveness of the latter somewhat bypicking a formation that doesn’t have units standing in front of one another.
This is one of the rare instances whereFree For Allcan be helpful, provided you keep your casters safe with buffs likeAir Screen.
The Duneworm is weak against Swords, as well asWater and Windelemental damage. Of the two, it’simportant that you bring several characters with Wind moves; the battle takes place on an Earth leyline, which willheal the Duneworm each roundunless you negate it by consistently casting spells from the Aerology school or using physical attacks that also deal Wind damage.
How To Beat Cyfreet
Once the Duneworm is beaten,return to Douglassto check in with the heirs to the throne. They’ll tell you that Cyfreet has escaped to his fortress north of the city.Go to Fort Cyfreetfor the showdown.
Fort Cyfreet is crawling with enemies, but also has lots of treasure. Be sure toraid the treasury on the right side of the mapbefore going after the boss.
Cyfreet is askilled spellcaster, aided by twoDouglass Swordsmenand aKilling Machine.The Shortsword techPlasma Thrustis a good way to deal with the Swordsmen, since they’re weak agaisnt Wind damage, and you can chip away at the Killing Machine at the same time. Bow skills that hit all targets, likeRapid VolleyorRain of Arrows, are also good for this fight, as both Cyfreet and the Swordsman or vulnearable to archery.
Having at least one skilled Sword wielder withCross Cutcan help deal with the Killing Machine before he deals too much damage, and you can then turn the attack onto Cyfreet, who is vulnerable to both Swords and Light.
Since you’re coming off the Duneworm fight, it’s a good idea tore-set your equipmentfor more balanced defenses. You’ll need Physical Defense to ward off the minions, and Magic Defense to survive Cyfreet’sDiamond Dustspell. If you have access to a Formation that grants a boost to Magic Defense, likeWitch’s Cap, that can also help you weather the storm.
Crusader Class Capabilities
Once Cyfreet is defeated,Cumberland will become a vassal of the Empire, allowing you to recruit the Crusaders of the Holy Order. A time skip will occur, letting you choose a new Emperor, including Crusader options if you want to dive in with the new class right away.
Male Crusaders
The descendants of George makeexcellent frontline tanksthanks to their high Stamina,and they’re able to fight withboth weapons and spells effectively(though they prefer the former thanks to their above-average Strength). Their skill in Hydrology and Aerology make them fantastic all-rounders, and theirDamage Conversionability lets thembuild up Overdrive Gaugeby taking damage.
Female Crusaders
The descendants of Sophia arededicated spellcasterswith a focus on healing. They start with a decent skill using Clubs, but you’ll want them to cast spells from Hydrology and Aerology whenever they can. Teaching them some Light spells - especiallyMoonlight- is also a good idea.
Female Crusaders can eventually unlock an Ability thatincreases the effectiveness of their healing spells, making them one of the game’s preeminent support units.
