Season 2 ofXDefiantadds the Highwaymen as a new playable faction. Originally introduced in Far Cry: New Dawn, they’re a gang led by the game’s antagonists, Mickey and Lou, who attempt to take over a post-apocalyptic Hope County. These bandits are more than just their punk-rock aesthetic, though; they come packing new abilities to shake up the meta.
The Highwaymens' portable turrets and saw launchers are perfect for controlling space in objective-based modes. They can decimate opponents in firefights too; their passive boosts rate-of-fire and reload speed as they go on killstreaks. However, much like each new addition to the XDefiant cast, you’ll have to grind a lot of matches to unlock them.
How To Unlock The Highwaymen
After launching the game andnavigating to the Factions menu, you’ll find the Highwaymen added to the roster. Once you click on them, you’ll see you canearn access to them through the completion of a Major Challenge. Select this option, and you’ll be taken to the Challenges menu.
We hope you have a lot of time on your hands, becauseunlocking the Highwaymen won’t be a quick endeavor. You will berequired to earn 700,000 experience pointsin order to play as them. Thisseems to be what we should expect for every new classadded to the game, since DedSec and GSK had the same unlock requirements in previous seasons.
Once in the Challenges menu, make sure that you click Activate Challenge. If you don’t, the XP you earnwon’t be counted towards the 700,000 neededto access the Highwaymen.
How To Earn XP
The easiest way to get experience points in XDefiant issimply playing the game. You’ll be awarded5,000 XP for completing a match, anda bonus 1,000if you win. There are alsodaily challengesthat offerpayouts as high as 10,000 experience, so it’srecommended that you prioritize themif you’re looking to make quick progress toward character unlocks.
Youget XP for completing in-game featsas well, like headshots or capturing the objective. The Season 2 update changes the HUD to better inform you of how much experience you’re earning, withpop-ups appearing after kills, healing, and more.
If you wish to start playing as the Highwaymen immediately, Ubisoft will let youspend real money to skip the grind. Using1,000 XCoins will get you a single character, and2,500 will buy you all three.
