Summary
Guilty GearandDragon Ball FighterZpublisher System Works recently announced thatHunter x Hunter’sfirst-ever fighting game,Nen x Impact, would belaunching later this year. But just three months later, it has delayed the game to 2025.
“We sincerely apologise for the trouble caused by this delay to the players who are looking forward to the game’s release,” the production team said in itsstatement. “This delay is so that we will be able to implement rollback netcode for release.
Without getting too technical on how it works, rollback netcode synchronises the inputs of each opponent, showing each action immediately for more responsive gameplay.
“We made this decision out of concern that players would not be able to fully enjoy the game in a state where some players would encounter issues with online play, given the nature of fighting games. The release date will be announced at a later time.”
Everything We Know About Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact
Developed by Eighting (the devs behindMarvel Vs. Capcom 3), Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact was first announced in January with a short teaser trailer. It’s a 2D 3v3 fighting game based on the manga’s Greed Island arc, launching next year on PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. There’s no word on an Xbox port just yet.
At launch, there will be 16 characters on the roster, and they are as follows: Bisky, Chrollo, Feitan, Genthru, Gon, Hisoka, Kullua, Kite, Kurapika, Leorio, Machi, Meruem, Morel, Netero, Razor, Uvogin.
Our own Training & Development Editor Axel Nicolás Bosso got to try Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact firsthand this yearduring Gamescom, describing it as a “solid 3v3 that feels a lot like more classic fighting games due to its tight scheme and the precision you need to perform combos”.
However, Bosso still doesn’t think that the game will appeal to a wider audience, saying that “its art style is nothing special” and that “its gameplay systems will have a rough time grabbing newcomers”. We’ll find out for ourselves next year.
