For those of you familiar with the original game, thenyou’ll be pleased to see an updated tutorial.This section of the game is quicker than the original, but feels more useful, especially in terms of combat.
This remake easily becomes the platonic ideal for Age of Mythology and makes it the true successor to the original.
In addition to this, you canexpect to see improved graphics for the entire game.Rather than feeling like a dated remaster, Age of Mythology: Retold presents like a modern game that doesn’t fall flat. Ryan emphasizes this withMythic units, which look “far more legendary and awesome”.
One notable point that brings down the game is the difficulty settings. Ryan mentioned that the Standard mode “would be better named ‘Easy’ or ‘Child’s Play’”. This isn’t the biggest drawback, but if you are looking to amp up the difficulty,then choose something higher than Standard.
Overall, Age of Mythology is agreat remaster of the original classic,and Ryan even goes so far as to say that the game “is a far better update to the classic than Extended Edition ever was, and this is self-evident through even a few hours with it”.

As a strategy game withendless possibilities,you can play Age of Mythology: Retold for hundreds of hours. If you are looking to complete the main story campaigns though,this will take you around20 to 30 hoursdepending on your playstyle.
Overall, each game can be slightly different, especially when playing with others. If you are a fan of custom skirmishes,then you can spend dozens of hours doing so without getting bored.

Age of Mythology: Retold willcost you $29.99 USD for the standard edition.If you want the premium edition, this will cost more,coming in at $49.99 USD.The premium version of the game comes with new in-game content like Freyr and Legacy Deity Portraits, as well as access to two expansion packs.

Age of Mythology Retold is one of the strongest remasters I’ve played - everything it needed to update, it did, and everything it needed to leave alone, it did. It’s an incredibly flexible entry point to the RTS genre and scales well to skilled play. I would recommend this game to anyone who can take a look at screenshots of it and not help but be interested.

I didn’t grow up playing Age of Mythology; instead, I was an avid player of Age of Empires. While Retold was my first brush with Age of Mythology, I think it really captures what Age of Empires is about with some refreshing changes. It’s so easy to sit down and tell yourself that you’re just going to play for a bit, only for several hours to pass by.
Personally, I’m a huge fan of making Myth units and just admiring how cool they look among my army. Overall, I’d say that Age of Mythology: Retold is a solid strategy game that appeals to players regardless if they’ve played the original or not.
