Summary
The Crew games are some of themost fun racing gameswe have ever played. With an amazing progression system, in-depth customization, and fun arcadey gameplay, these games appeal to all racing fans who don’t want ultra-realistic gameplay, and just want to race around in fast cars.
This article will compare The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest, to decide which one is the better game. Although we have spent much more time with The Crew 2 as it has been out for so long, we’re going to attempt to be as unbiased in our judgment as possible.
7Vehicles - The Crew Motorfest
A Lot More Variety
One of the main reasons we love The Crew series is the variety of cars it comes with, and Motorfest wins out in this category as it has almost 50 more vehicles than The Crew 2, most of them cars. The one thing that The Crew 2 does have over Motorfest is that it has a few vehicles, such as the iconic helicopter, that aren’t present in Motorfest as of yet.
The cars also feel much better in Motorfest. The improved handling and controls make turning a lot easier, and most cars feel like a pleasure to drive as well.
6Story - The Crew 2
A Disappointing Addition
The Crew series isn’t exactly known for its great storylines, but we still expect to get a decent narrative and background out of them. The original Crew game was undoubtedly the best game in this regard. Its story of revenge, with the inclusion of the FBI, is something we remember to this day. The Crew 2 was a massive falloff as it had a non-linear story, but it still had a background narrative of getting to the top of the racing world.
The Crew Motorfest is very disappointing as it doesn’t have an overarching story at all. There are different events that you can play, which have some cutscenes and a basic theme, but there isn’t really anything that makes you feel connected to the game at all.
5Customization - Tie
Two Of The Best Customization Systems
After the cars and the racing, customization is probably the most important part of any Crew game, as they feature a very in-depth system that any motorhead will love. But there isn’t much to separate these two games on this basis, as Motorfest pretty much keeps the same customization system that is present in The Crew 2.
One of the cool features that Motorfest adds is the ability to customize engine sounds, but it also lacks a lot of things that you would expect a modern racing game to have, such as an option to customize your license plates.
4Map - The Crew 2
Large Vs Small
One of the most disappointing parts of Motorfest is its small map, which is based on the small island of O’ahu in Hawaii. Although this map is very detailed, and there are new islands also being added to the game with more updates, it still feels small when compared to the recreation of the United States that we have in The Crew 2.
Although this recreation isn’t perfect at all, it does feel a lot more fun to drive through the different American cities, as compared to just staying on the different islands of Hawaii. There is also a lot more variety in terms of its environments, andjust free-roam drivingthrough the States can be very relaxing and peaceful.
3Driving/Racing - The Crew: Motorfest
The Most Important Feature
At the end of the day, any good racing game is defined by how fun and intuitive it feels to drive cars and Motorfest is by far the better game in this regard. The handling in this game feels like a big improvement over the last two games, and it feels as if you have full control over your car, which makes driving, and especially, turning corners a lot smoother.
The physics of Motorfest is also a lot more realistic, but it doesn’t take awaythe arcadey and casual feelingof the series which it is known for. This game also features a Rewind function, similar to Forza, but it manages to pull it off in its own unique style without making it too strong.
2Graphics - The Crew: Motorfest
A Huge Difference
If there’s one category where Motorfest easily surpasses both of the previous games in its series, it’s undoubtedly its graphics. The bright colors and intricate detailing make the map look amazing, and you won’t get tired of just driving around it and admiring the views.
Motorfest also doesn’t move away from the animation style of the series and doesn’t try to portray a super realistic world like we see in some other racing games. Although The Crew 2 doesn’t necessarily have bad graphics, they just don’t compare to the much newer and better standards of Motorfest.
1Final Verdict - The Crew Motorfest
A Tough Choice
We were very tempted to call this one a tie as both games have a lot of merits about them, but we finally chose to give it to The Crew Motorfest, as it is a much better racing game at the end of the day. The cars feel better to drive, the graphics are better, and there are also more varieties of cars to try out. A lack of a proper story is the only thing that we truly don’t enjoy about this game, while the rest of the factors are mostly about matters of preference, such as the decision to move toa smaller but more detailed map.
The Crew 2 is a lot of fun to play as well, and its large map is one of the main reasons for that. It also feels a lot better to drive vehicles other than the cars in this game, such as airplanes, helicopters and motorbikes, but its overall driving and graphics are clearly worse than Motorfest, mostly as it is a much older game. As they offer very different things, some people are bound to like one game over the other, and we would recommend giving them both a go, as you might just end up preferring The Crew 2.
