Summary
Welcome to the Layers of the Abyss, it’s a rough descent inKill Knightand you’re going to need every little bit of help you may get. There are plenty of monsters ahead and the game does not take it easy on you.
There’s a handful of mechanics to take onboard, but once you get rolling it’s easy to let muscle memory take over as you focus on keeping your Kill Power at max. Doing so gives you a tasty damage and speed boost that’s borderline necessary as the Layers go on. So to help you keep that bar filled, here are ten tips for increasing your Kill Power in Kill Knight.
10Don’t Get Hit
It sounds pretty basic, but it’s arguably the best tip for keeping your Kill Power maxed out. Any little smack or errant ranged attack that clips you will dent your Kill Power bar. Take too many and it removes it completely, forcing you to start building it back up all over again.
Dashing is mandatory as there’s some generous I-Frames. However, the number of dashes you get is bound to the gear you’re wearing. Since you need to be aggressive to keep your Kill Power topped up, dashing in to get a few smacks then backing out as their attack animation plays out works every time.
There’s normally a two-second delay before an attack comes. You’ll see a monster pause, target you, and then swing or shoot. Once you get that one-two-three rhythm down, it gets easy to dodge everything.
9Don’t Stop Shooting
Whilst you do have an ammo bar that runs down when you’re shooting, the reserve pool is infinite so we encourage you to be trigger-happy. You’re swarmed constantly bythe monster hordeand there’s a delay on your melee swing. So if you’re not holding down the trigger, you’re going to be overwhelmed.
Hitting the swarm with a deluge of bullets will keep your kill count up, which in turn stops your Kill Power from going down. Plus, different weapons have unique abilities and reloading your primary gun allows for the activation of two powerful trigger moves that are very handy and also unique to certain melee weapons. So throw concerns about accuracy to the wind and get that gun off.
8Become A Parry God
This is a tip you won’t have to worry about often as it concerns flashing enemies and these don’t tend to pop up until the later Layers. On your first run, you will only encounter a handful on the first two layers. Butlearning to parryis very worth your while.
When you see flashing enemies it’s highly recommended you get in their way and parry them with a well-timed sword swing. Doing so activates the Pulse Counter and if you keep holding down the melee attack button it triggers Hyper Mode. It’s essentially like Witch Time from Bayonetta, as reality slows right down and you can run around doing big damage.
7Burst That Wrath
You really, really should be getting Wrathful in this game. Popping off your Heavy Weapons Wrath ability not only lets you heal, but depending on what you use it can create a few vital seconds of breathing room.
Each weapon has a unique wrath ability, with some being more useful than others. But it’s easy to trigger it. Just collect red Wrath Shards after kills. Good Wrath Burst weapons to get comfortable with are the Ruinshot and the Rectifire. One is a shotgun that fires a big exploding boulder, the other sets off homing shots in a wide fan in front of you.
6Mix It Up
Whilst you can just spam one attack over and over if you want, mixing in everything in your arsenal is actively encouraged. Dumping everything you have from Sword Bursts, Heavy Weapons fire and Wrath Bursts is the best way to keep your Kill Power high.
Think of it like theDevil May Cry Style Meter, keeping those combos interesting and varied not only fills up the Kill Power bar faster, it lets you land more kills quicker over time. Plus, since everything spawns on the exact same spot in each run, you can line up attacks like Wrath Bursts ahead of time for maximum efficiency.
5Get Triggered
If you’re not actively taking advantage of your Trigger moves then you’re playing with a serious disadvantage. There’s two active triggers called Sword Trigger and Heavy Ammo Trigger, and it’s mandatory that you remember to use them as often as you can.
Especially Sword Trigger as it’s a powerful sword attack that can keep your Kill Power up. Plus, the type and effectiveness of which is dependent on the sword being used. The other absorbs all the heavy ammo in the arena. It sounds more complicated than it is. But you just have to press the sword or absorb button at the right time during your pistol’s active reload bar. So blast them until they’re dry, watch the bar, and pick a button.
Experiment with Sword Trigger combinations to find one that works for you. For example, the Swiftshade sword does a spin attack for its Sword Trigger which blocks projectiles, deals damage, and harvests Heavy Ammo.
4Tweak Your Loadout
To leapfrog from our last tip, tweaking your loadout is actively encouraged. Whilst you can run with the starter set all the way to the end, it’ll be a smoother ride if you stack the deck somewhat.
Some remembrances and equipment increase your kill power. Whilst, others can be used to create a build that resource dumps. For example, combine the Swiftshade with something that increases Heavy Ammo return. So each spin during the Sword Trigger will allow you to harvest extra ammo. Then you just mag dump your secondary weapon, mag dump your primary, Sword Trigger for ammunition, rinse and repeat.
3Herd Little Mobs
If you want to pour a ton of blood juice into your Kill Power bar then start practicing your herding skills. Whilst it may seem like the swarm of monsters is endless, there is a limit to how many spawn in for each wave.
Once you run through a Layer enough times you’ll start to see what kind of creatures pop up a set intervals. If it’s the basic melee and ranged units, then start herding them into one big clump, then pop a Wrath Burst right on top of them. It’ll create a large splat of Shards that once sucked up should spike your Kill Power bar right to the brim.
2Don’t Forget To Vacuum
There’s already a lot on the screen that you need to deal with in Kill Knight, but sucking up Shards needs to be second nature if you want to keep up your Kill Power. Let alone just survive the next wave of creatures.
You may feel like you need to hoard them to save up for Wrath Burst heals at a bad moment, but don’t do that. Pop off your Wrath and go back to vacuuming as you can’t grab any more Shards until then. You need to be dealing the maximum amount of damage at all times to get more kills and keep that Kill Power at max. The less you kill, the faster it drops.
1Use Environmental Traps
This only applies to the later Layers, but occasionally you’ll encounter traps that you’re able to activate. They will damage you, but they’ll also drop a lot of hurt on monsters. Plus, if you time it right you can lure a big clump in for some easy Shards after they get killed.
Most traps will trigger when you step on or near them, but you can also trigger them with a stray pistol shot. So it’s a bit of a double-edged sword if you’re not paying attention. They do reset, and they can be very useful at clearing out the swarm somewhat.
