Summary
Kingdom Heartshas a slightly unfair reputation for being absolutely baffling. That kind of reputation will undoubtedly have pushed some people away from trying out the series in the past, confusing many as to where they should start, and which spinoffs are mandatory to play for the story to make any kind of sense.Kingdom Hearts 4will do away with all that.
In thelatest issue of popular Japanese magazine Young Jump, Kingdom Hearts co-creator and director Tetsuya Nomura has revealed a bunch of details about what kind of game he’d like Kingdom Hearts 4 to be. Alongside the revelation that the game is being madewith the aim of eventually concluding the series, Nomura also claimed that Kingdom Hearts 4 will act as a story reset.
Kingdom Hearts 4 Is Considered A Story Reset
Twitter user Aitakimochi shared a translated version of the interview via her Twitter account earlier today, which reveals that Nomura wishes for Kingdom Hearts 4 to “reset the story in a way” so that he can make “make it even easier for newcomers to join the story.” While the game will still feature Sora as the protagonist, it sounds as though the events in Kingdom Hearts 4 won’t have much of a connection to the rest of the series.
However, there will still be some stuff in there for longtime Kingdom Hearts fans to get excited about. Nomura later reassures fans that Kingdom Hearts 4 will still have moments that answer questions that players have about the rest of the series, but his hopes are that new players will be able to enjoy the game’s story just as much as series veterans.
As for when we’ll actually be able to experience this story for ourselves, that’s a matter that’s still up for debate. There have been a variety of rumors surrounding Kingdom Hearts 4’s release date ever since its announcement, the latestclaiming that the game won’t launch until 2026. We know for sure thatit won’t be at Tokyo Game Show this year, meaning it’ll most likely be 2025 before we see the game surface again.
