Summary
The long-dormant Legacy of Kain series is finally making a comeback. As announced at today’s State of Play, Crystal Dynamics and Aspyr — who collaborated on Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered — are bundling the two Soul Reaver games in a remastered collection, launching later this year on December 10.
The duology was first leaked earlier this year in July during San Diego Comic Con. Fans spotted the remastered collection’s branding alongside a Dark Horse QR code in front of two statues from the game, despite no official announcement. These signs were quickly removed, and no further details have since surfaced.
The very first game, Blood Omen, will also be joining the PS Plus classics catalogue “soon"alongside Dino Crisis.
In the trailer, we get to see a whole bunch of before and after shots, showing off the crisper, updated HD graphics. But you can switch between the original and revamped visuals on the fly, so if you prefer the older, more nostalgic look, the option is still there.
There Hasn’t Been A New Legacy Of Kain Game In Over 20 Years
It’s been a long time since we last got our hands on the Legacy of Kain series. It all started with Blood Omen in 1996, developed by Silicon Knights, but Crystal Dynamics took over the series with the two Soul Reaver games in 1999 and 2001.
Blood Omen 2 launched a year later in 2002, and the series came to a close shortly after in 2003 with Legacy of Kain: Defiance. In just over two decades, there hasn’t been a single other entry, but now an entirely new generation can experience these games for the first time for their 25th anniversary.
