Summary

Life is Strangefans really aren’t happy aboutDouble Exposure’s treatment of Chloe and its depiction of what happened to the two of them after the events of the first game.

One of the biggest things that made the original Life is Strange stand out from the crowd (aside from its time-rewinding powers, of course)was its focus on the relationship between Max and Chloe. While the twocouldjust be best friends, it’s generally agreed that they’re one of gaming’s best couples and are clearly set up to be more than BFFs.

With that in mind, Life is Strange: Double Exposure has had a massive weight on its shouldersfrom the moment it was first revealed to be bringing back Max for another adventure. With Chloe nowhere in sight and the two massively different endings hanging over Max’s head in the ten years that have passed since her time at Arcadia Bay, there were alotof questions that needed to be answered.

Spoiler alert for Life is Strange: Double Exposure’s first two episodes below.

Life Is Strange Fans Aren’t Happy With What Happened To Chloe

As we reported a few days ago,Double Exposure lets you choose which of Life is Strange’s two big endings is canonfor this version of Max Caufield. This, in turn, also lets you decide whether or not Chloe is alive and if she and Max were just best friends or something a little more. The correct answer is right there, you guys.

Unfortunately, no matter what you choose as the canon ending from the first game, Chloe isn’t involved in Double Exposure’s story and has in fact been separated from Max for quite some time. If you explore Max’s room, you can find a break-up letter that cites Max’s inability to move on from the past as the reason, something Max backs up in a conversation with Safi.

While it is a shame that Max and Chloe split up, it does make sense considering everything that happened in the first game and how traumatic that must have been for both of them.

Choosing to break up Max and Chloe after everything they went through in the first game has gone about as well as you’d expect with fans. Twitter, TikTok, and Reddit are all full of posts about the two’s treatment and none of them seem particularly happy about it,such as Twitter user thurssdaygirl, who called out Deck Nine for misunderstanding both characters.

Twitter user LookAtMyMeat1 shared a post critiquing Chloe’s actionsafter the first game and said that “Max deserves better”,while Redditor Ollidor questioned why a developerwould “burn their fans like this”. No matter where you turn in the Life is Strange community, it seems that most fans really aren’t happy with the decision, with some going as far as suggesting Double Exposure isn’t canon.
