Summary
It’s been a pretty big day forYakuza/Like A Dragonfans, as developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios held its yearly showcase to bring us all the news regarding the future of the series. We knew going in that the studio was going to reveal the next game it’s working on following the release of Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and it has rather spectacularly delivered.
The show opened up with a trailer for a brand-new game announcement, and the rumors about a pirate game starring Majima turned out to be very accurate. In the trailer, we see Majima washing up on a beach, completely missing his memory and having absolutely no idea how he got there. We then see Majima tussle with some pirates, andthe legendary Yakuza sets off on a journey to discover Madlantis.
After the trailer finishes, we find out that this rumored game is called Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and it will be launching on June 05, 2025. It was later confirmed that this gamewill be ditching turn-based combat, and will be an action adventure game similar to that ofLike A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Namethat was released in 2023. While not confirmed, it will likely be a similarly shorter experience too.
Like A Dragon Is Getting A Majima-Focused Pirate Game
While we didn’t get a lot of info about the game’s story from the trailer, we do know that Majima has lost his memory. It was later confirmed that the game will also take place one year after the events of Infinite Wealth, though Majima’s memory loss likely means we’ll get very little in terms of references to the games prior.
Like A Dragon: Pirates in Hawaii will also bring back kart racing as a minigame, and include classic minigames such as karaoke and Crazy Delivery.
Later on in the stream, we got a video showcasing some of the gameplay, and the styles of combat that Majima can utilize. Ryu Ga Gotoku explains that players will be able to switch between two styles of combat, Majima’s standard Mad Dog style - which includes a jump for the first time in the series - and the Sea Dog style, which sees Majima brandishing cutlasses and firearms.
It’s going to be painful waiting until February 28 to actually play this thing, but at least we now have a new Like A Dragon game to look forward to.
