Summary
Yakuza/Like A Dragongames are released at such an impressive rate, it’s safe to assume that the team at Ryu Ga Gotoku is performing some sort of sorcery behind the scenes. Only a little more than four months to go until the release ofLike A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii, and it turns out there’s something else from the series to tide us over between now and then.A physical collector’s editionthat includes copies of the first seven games in the series, but there’s a catch.
Limited Run Games not only revealed that it will be handlingthe physical edition of Yakuza Kiwami onNintendo Switch, but also that it hasstandard and classic editions of Kiwami and Yakuza 0, the first two games in the series on the in-game timeline, on other platforms. What’s more, the games come with a slipcase with slots for seven games. Limited Run has already confirmed that Yakuza Kiwami 2 through Yakuza 6 will be getting the same treatment in the future so you will be able to fill that case.
As exciting as this all is for Yakuza fans who would like to own physical copies of the first six games with consistent box art and designs that fit neatly into one case and look good on your shelf, there has been quite a bit of confusion since Limited Run made the announcement. For starters, why isYakuza 0getting a Limited Run release onPS4when it already has a physical version?Limited Run CEO Josh Fairhurst has explainedthat since it was doing one forXbox, where the first six Yakuza games are only available digitally, it felt like it made sense to do it forPlayStationtoo, especially since it’s one part of a seven-game collection.
Pre-Orders For Yakuza Kiwami And Yakuza 0 Are Now Open
Just Five More Games To Go
The Switch version of Kiwami also getting a collector’s edition led some to believe this was confirmation that six more Yakuza will be coming toNintendoplatforms,Fairhurst confirmed if that is the plan, he hasn’t been told about it. It’s a fairly confusing situation between the Switch being involved and Yakuza 0 having already been released physically on PS4, but hopefully any confusion you had has now been cleared up.
