Summary
Lollipop Chainsawis a cult classic with a loyal following. Initially released in 2012, the James Gunn andSuda51-created zombie hack-and-slash garnered a lot of love.
So, when in 2022, Kadokawa Games announcedLollipop Chainsaw RePop, a remaster of the 2012 title, there was much delight from fans. Unfortunately, however, after launching yesterday, it appears the game has failed to live up to expectations, being called “uglier than the original” with animations that are “more choppy.”
Lollipop Chainsaw RePop “Fails As A Remaster In All Aspects”
In the 24 hours since the game’s launch, social media has been flooded with clips from the title, with fans sharing their disappointment.
Lolipop Chainsaw’s officialSubredditis littered withglitch-laden videos, demonstrating just how badly optimized the remaster is.
Initially set for release in 2023, RePop waspushed to 2024, but it looks like it could have done with even longer in the oven.
Many fans have been quick to show their disdain towards the newly released product; one Twitter usersuccinctly summed thingsup, saying:
Notably, the game also lost all of its licensed music, and fans are already asking for help modding the original soundtrack back in.
While social media is rife with complaints, it’s worth noting that the game currently sits with “Very Positive” reviews onSteam. Although it’s not clear how many of these are nostalgia-fuelled fans who are just happy to see the game back.
Given thatSuda51 and Gunn admitted they weren’t working on RePop, it’s interesting to see how things turned out, and it will be fascinating to see if the developers of the remaster can turn things around.
