Summary

Magic: The Gathering’sCommander format was completely upended today as the Commander Rules Committee decided to ban its first wave of cards since 2021,when Golos, Tireless Pilgrim was banned. Four cards in total were banned, those being Jeweled Lotus; Mana Crypt; Nadu, Winged Wisdom; and most controversially of all, Dockside Extortionist.

These cards were very powerful, therefore making them very valuable. Unfortunately, due to the fact that they’re now banned in the Commander format, most of that value has dropped off a cliff, as all of these cards are now being sold on the second hand market for far below what they were just a few days ago.

Dockside Extortionist prices

Dockside Extortionist is one of the more noticeable examples, as just yesterday, the cards were going for around £70 according to Card Market. Take a look at the most recent listings now, and you’ll see a bunch of Dockside Extortionists being sold for around £15, representing a whopping 79 percent reduction in value. You’ve even got a guy selling one for about 57 pence, with the caption “Dockside took all our money!”

Magic: The Gathering’s Commander Bans Has Tanked Their Value

It’s a pretty similar story to the other cards included in this recent wave of bans. Jeweled Lotus owners have been hit pretty hard too, as the card was worth around £90 before the bans were announced.Take a look at the card on Card Market, and you’ll see that they’re now selling at a disastrously low £20. That’s a roughly 82 percent decrease in value.

Mana CryptandNadu, Winged Wisdomhave also been hit pretty hard, though the latter was only going for a few pounds at best, so there’s not much monetary value lost there. For the rest of the cards, they’ve completely tanked in value, making a lot of Magic: The Gathering collections out there a lot less valuable as a result. Fans haven’t been taking it well.
