A card fromMagic: The Gathering’s upcoming Duskmourn: House of Horror set contains a reference to The Outsider fromDishonored.

Wizards of the Coasthas been releasing sets for Magic: The Gathering at a lightning-fast pace, with Duskmourn scheduled to arrive just eight weeks after the release of the current set Bloomburrow.

Creeping Peeper, from Duskmourn: House of Horror

One of the upcoming cards is Creeping Peeper, a two-mana mono-blue 2/1 with an additional effect that allows the player to spend one blue mana to “cast an enchantment spell, unlock a door, or turn a permanent face up.”

The art of Creeping Peeperhas sparked speculation among discerning Magic playersas one of the books on the bookshelf beneath the Peeper features the Outsider’s Mark from Dishonored on its spine.

Valgavoth, Terror Eater by Antonio Jose Manzanedo

The Outsider’s Mark is granted by The Outsider to those who have attracted his interest. Three of the known recipients of the mark are Corvo, Emily and Daud, all playable characters in the Dishonored series.

While some have speculated this is an obscure teaser for an upcoming Dishonored Universes Beyond set, others just think it’s a neat reference, which is more likely. Wizards of the Coast has previously worked with Bethesda on the Fallout set, but Dishonored isn’t quite as ‘hot’ or well-known as the Fallout IP.

Beware The House

Another interesting observation made by fans is that one of the books is written in Phyrexian speech. This could mean the Phyrexians tried to invade The House at one point, or that some Phyrexians were lured inside by Valgavoth on one of his multiplanar feeding sprees.

Duskmourn: House of Horror brings with it plenty of new and returning mechanics. The new ‘Rooms’ mechanic is bringing back split cards, ‘locking’ one half of a card and allowing you to pay a mana cost to unlock the other half. There are several other new mechanics, namely Eerie, Impending, Manifest Dread and Survival.
