The latest hero shooter looking to take over the gaming world is NetEase Games and Marvel Game’s upcomingMarvel Rivals. Pitting players in 6v6 matches, you’ll be able to take characters like Magneto, Iron Man, the Scarlet Witch,Rocket Raccoon, and more and enter an all-out battle royal in an attempt to stop a villainous Doctor Doom.

The good Doctor isn’t the only one watching these battles play out, however, with a mysterious woman overseeing the battles with seemingly cosmic powers at her disposal. While at first glance, you might mistake her for Galactus, and you are not far off, the arbiter of these battles is an entity known as Galacta.

Galacta points to an orb with the Marvel Rivals logo inside of it while standing against a purple background.

Who Is Galacta?

If you don’t recognize Galacta at first, don’t fret. Galacta, also known as Gali, is a noncanon character that was introduced in a short run of comics from back in 2009 to 2010 called Galacta: Daughter of Galactus and was in an anthology special comic called The Marvel Assistant-Sized Spectactular. It is a fun comic, taking place in a separate universe of Earth-610102 in the greater Marvel Multiverse.

Adam Warren and Hector Sevilla Lujan brought Galacta to life in The Marvel Assistant-Sized Spectacular, pushing the boundaries of fun characters that play within the world of Marvel.

In the comics, Galacta is a regular young woman, blending in with the human populationjust fine, though she always seems hungry despitebeing able to quell her voracious appetitewithout having to destroy entire worlds to sate it. She doesn’t have the best relationship with her father, Galactus, Devourer of Worlds, but she has built a life for herself on Earth as a blogger and foodie. She even has her own X (formerly Twitter)account, though it hasn’t been updated since 2009.

Just How Strong Is She?

She would do some hero work from time to time, but never in the public eye. When the hunger pangs become too much to deal with, she would step in and devour intergalactic threats to Earth, consuming themwithout the people of Earth ever knowing. Since then, however, she hasn’t been seen in Marvel universes, until her introduction in Marvel Rivals. She was left to an obscure universe and deemed non-canon in the main Marvel timeline. Much like her estranged father, Galacta comes with many of the same powers that Galactus has, though some of them are weaker since she is much younger than her father. She does have some extraordinary abilities that catapult her past most of the Marvel heroes hanging out on Earth.

Some of her most powerful abilities include a cosmic awareness of the world around her, allowing her to understand the very essence of all thing around her. This helps make her one of the most intelligent entities in the universe, much like her father. Another of her main abilities isthe ability to consume all matter she chooses, converting it to pure energy to sate her endless hunger. While her father is driven to endlessly consume at all times of his existence, Galacta can control her hunger to a much greater degree. That said, if she gets too hungry her powers can go beserk, amplifying her abilities to a higher degree.

Much of her cosmic power gives her a plethora of other abilities that can be lumped under the title of near-godhood. She can fly, teleport, control the weather, read minds, and so much more. More importantly, she is an evolution of Galactus, possessing powers similar to hisbut a level of ingenuity that her father lacks, driving her to find creative solutions to problems that plague her father.

Most importantly, Galacta also doesn’t seem to bebound by the cosmic necessity that Galactus is. He acts as a sort of cosmic arbiter for the other cosmic entities of Eternity and Death, balancing the two and making sure one does not over take the other. Since Galacta doesn’t need to deal with that level of responsibility, she’s free to pay attention to other things and enjoy her life.

So What Is Galacta Doing In Marvel Rivals?

Her role in Marvel Rivals seems to be much like Athena’s inOverwatch 2,that of a narrator and passive observer, perhaps even one who is setting up the player’s matches to a degree. While we might have to wait for Marvel Rivals todrop later this year to find out more, Galacta makes a fun addition to the game as an overseer to the events as they foretold, kind of like the Watcher in main Marvel lore.

With her returning to the eye of Marvel Comics fans eyes, there’s a not-insignificant chance that Galacta will make a return with her comic book, possibly even entering the main 616 universe with all the other heroes and villains you love.
