Summary
Metaphor: ReFantaziomay have just come out — as in, it came out just nearly two weeks ago — but its director is already hard at work on developing a new game. And before you ask, no, it’s not Persona 6.
In an interview that has since been transcribed by GamesRadar, director Katsura Hashino revealed that his mind has already shifted from Metaphor to something new entirely. “Oh, I have already started,” he said, owing to the fact that he doesn’t “really think about what to do as an individual,” however.
In Hashino We Trust
As for what the game could end up being, well, that’s a bit more complicated. For one, it’s not Persona, but whatever it ends up being, it’ll have fans at the forefront, as well as his fellow game developers. “I look atAtlusas a whole and think about what is best for our team to create right now,” he said. “Firstly, I want the users to be happy, and as a result, I hope the company will be happy as well.”
All of this is normal for Hashino, with him saying, “That is how I always work.” And, really, who are we to judge the auteur? Since his first release in the mid 1990s, Hoshino has delivered nothing but critically acclaimed gems. Metaphor aside, Hashino has had a hand in the likes ofShin Megami Tensei,Persona 3,Persona 4,Catherine,Persona 5and13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.
Of course, Metaphor has done nothing but continue that run of highly successful video games. As our Meg Pelliccio wrote in their review, “Metaphor: ReFantazio is a new peak for Atlus. It takes so much of what was great about Persona, refines it, and throws that powder into an exciting fantasy setting with incredible lore, well-developed characters, and a fresh new battle system.” In other words, don’t doubt Atlus or Hashino.
