Summary

Metaphor: ReFantaziohas been out for almost a week now, butits status as an absolute chonker of a video gamemeans that not everyone will have rolled credits just yet. In fact, you could probably bet that the majority of normal people haven’t had enough time to get even halfway through the game, so many are still on lockdown to avoid potential spoilers.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Fans Are Banned From Putting Spoilers In Video Thumbnails

Thankfully, Atlus is making it a little bit easier for players to traverse platforms like Twitch and YouTube to avoid having the game spoiled by a content creator with no regard for other people. Earlier today, Atlus announcedvia the Japanese Twitter account for Metaphor: ReFantazio(thanks GamesRadar) that it has updated its guidelines around video and streaming, banning players from uploading video to online platforms that have spoilers in the title or thumbnail.

Atlus notes that it has the ability to delete or suspend “videos or broadcasts that we deem inappropriate”, so hopefully that’s enough of a warning for people to watch what they’re uploading. Of course, that also sounds like something that’s going to be very difficult to enforce, so it’s still worth being careful online if you’re playing through Metaphor: ReFantazio and want to remain unspoiled for now.

Those that like to make videos of Atlus games and stream them will know that the company can be very strict when it comes to online content, usually asking people to avoid uploading videos of certain moments or past certain dates in the game’s calendars. For example, Atlus stopped streamers fromuploading videos of Persona 5 Royalthat included footage of the game past the in-game date of December 24, in an effort to stop spoilers from spreading.

While there have been complaints about Atlus' strictness surrounding streaming in the past, this addendum to the existing rules for Metaphor: ReFantazio feels more than fair, especially since it’s been less than a week and people spoiling the game already would be considered bonafide jerks by the majority of the fanbase. Atlus will also probably drop these conditions eventually, like it did with other games, so all it’s asking is for streamers and content creators to maybe be a bit more thoughtful before blasting spoilers all over social media.
