As it turns out, we have got some exciting news on the horizon for fans of fantasy RPGs. TheMetaphor: ReFantazioteam has dropped a tasty demo that lets you dive right into the beginnings of their magical world. This “prologue preview” is free to download on basically any platform you may think of - Xbox Series X|S, Windows, PlayStation 4 and 5, Steam, you name it.
ReFantazio captures that nostalgic old-school JRPG vibe but also brings some fresh new elements to the table. The combat in it follows a classic turn-based structure where you can strategize about enemy weaknesses, but they’ve made it more dynamic by integrating some real-time action too, so you’ll need to think fast. There’s also this huge, sprawling fantasy world for you to get lost in, packed with dungeons to delve into, characters to have chats with, and places to explore. And that, to me, sounds just like an adventurer’s paradise.
Story-wise, it revolves around a royal tournament and your quest to lift a curse that’s been placed on the prince. I’m also sensing some drama and power struggles there. Oh, and they have these Persona-esque social simulation bits where you can develop relationships and manage your time. So balancing your social calendar impact things just as much as your combat abilities.

Check out Metaphor: ReFantazio, an epic new fantasy RPG directed by the talented Katsura Hashino who brought us the acclaimed Persona 5. In this immersive adventure, you’ll vie for control over a fantasy kingdom, weaving a complex web of alliances and rivalries.
This demo is the perfect bite-sized introduction, too. You’ll get to lift a curse placed on a prince, delve into four starter dungeons teeming with beasts and loot, andexperiment with seven out of over 40 classes, known as “Archetypes"here. Along the way, you’ll team up with six wacky followers to join your adventuring party.
