Summary

The firstMinecraftlive-action movie trailer landed this week, and to say the reception was lukewarm at best would be an understatement.

As we covered earlier this week, the trailer has over one million dislikes on YouTube and counting. The comments section isn’t much better, either, with fans hoping things could be changed a la Sonic.

Twitter Reception

That’s just one part of the spectrum,as fans also took aim with the story seemingly being another Isekai tale. The fact thatthe previous leaks of Jack Black’s portrayal of Steve being real, even after backlash. Or the accusations ofthe movie whitewashing Steve.

In other words, things have been pretty dire. So much so thata fan took it upon themselves to recreate the trailer in Minecraft itself, helping prove that the movie’s live-action decision probably wasn’t the best choice.

Fine, I’ll Do It Myself

As first spotted on Twitter, 3D artist Alumio shared his version of the Minecraft trailer that he helped build alongside a couple of other artists.

It’s a 1:1 creation, complete with the actual trailer’s dialogue and tags, except it was actually built in Minecraft. The end result is a movie trailer that looks a lot more palatable than whatever it is that we got earlier this week.

Check it out:

As of the time of publication, the trailer is nearing a million views on YouTube, and it hasn’t even been a full 24 hours yet. That’s not to mention that it doesn’t carry the same baggage of dislikes as the official trailer does.

Oh, and the comments are way more positive, with one user writing, “I’d pay to view a full feature. Not only out of spite for Hollywood, but because it’s genuinely well animated.”

Over on Twitter, the trailer is nothing short of a rousing success, with 4.8 million views and counting, and plenty of interactions (likes, retweets and comments) to go along with it.

It’s unclear if the artist will create a full-length version of the movie in Minecraft when it does come out, though based off the reception to a teaser recreation, that’s probably on the table. If there’s any lesson to take from all of this, it’s to never doubt the creativity and passion of fans.
