Summary

If you were hoping to playMonster Hunter: Wildswhenit releases next Februaryat 60 frames per second, then you might want to reevaluate your plans. That’s because Wilds will seemingly not run at 60 frames, even on aPlayStation 5 Pro.

As first spotted on ResetEra, a disclaimer during a Capcom presentation revealed that Wilds is targeting 30fps on basePS5consoles, as well asXbox Series X and S. As for the PS5 Pro version andPC, it’s targeting 30 frames uncapped. However, that disclaimer also says “more details close to release.”

It’s a big bummer for console owners, but shouldn’t come as too much a surprise as aCapcomgame or for games in general. For reference,Dragon’s Dogma 2 added a 30fps cap to mitigate the unrestricted issues via a post-launch patch.

Elsewhere, the upcoming Xbox exclusive Avowed recently revealed that it would be targeting 30fps at launch. “It’s a first-person, single-player game, you don’t necessarily need that 60 frames, and that allows us to get a lot juicier with VFX and lighting and all this other stuff,“art director Matt Hansen said in an interview.

But What About Pushing Hardware “To The Max?”

Just a few months ago, director Yuya Tokuda shared in an interview with PC Gamer that his goal is to push the hardware to the max.

“As the hardware generations we’re working on get more and more powerful, I want to use the specs of the hardware to the max to depict as convincing a living, breathing world as I possibly can,” Tokuda said at Summer Game Fest.

Obviously, pushing the hardware to the max doesn’t necessarily have to involve frames, though it certainly is a consideration. Perhaps most noteworthy is that even a PS5 Pro can’t get the game to 60fps,which might be a continuing issue so long as this generation exists due to CPU concerns.

Maybe a post-launch patch can sort things out, though that likely won’t be the case for a while. Either way, that certainly will be a determining factor whether players buy on day one.
