Summary
Astro Botis an incredibly inviting game, and while it is designed to appeal to all ages, it definitely feels like a game that you can even suggest for beginner gamers as well. For the most part, this rings true throughout most of the standard levels, but there are a few challenges thrown in that break this pattern.
In each of Astro Bot’s worlds, there are trial levels which can often be pretty tricky to finish, and even a couple of the normal levels can put up a stiff challenge as well. So, which levels in Astro Bot are you likely to struggle with the most?
8Ropeway Rally
World 3 - Serpent Speedway
One of the mid-game trial levels, Ropeway Rally feels like the trickiest trial level from the game’s third world. As the name suggests, the level challenges your ability to quickly react to the swinging ropes, so you can make your way to the end of the level while dodging all the obstacles.
The swinging rope is not featured too often throughout Astro Bot, so you’ll likely not be that accustomed to using it, especially if you play this level as you’re progressing through Serpent Speedway as well. It’s not the hardest trial level overall, but you’ll likely need a handful of attempts.
7Pumpkin Peril
World 2 - Tentacle System
Even though it’s only in Astro Bot’s second world, Pumpkin Peril remains one of the tougher levels in the game, thanks to the omnipresence of the pumpkin-shaped projectile-popping menaces that are determined to shoot down each of your attempts.
These enemies will track Astro’s movements up until the moment they pause to shoot, making them pretty tough to dodge, and Astro will not survive even one blast from them, so you need to be careful throughout the whole course.
6High-Suction Hero
Secret World - Lost Galaxy
While it is not as difficult as some of the trial levels, being one of the last secret levels you’ll likely encounter, High-Suction Hero challenges you to think intuitively about how to progress through its tougher areas.
Taking full advantage of the elephant suck power up, this level is more open-ended in its approach to platforming, but if you aren’t careful, you can lose big chunks of progress if you aren’t perfect with where you place your platforms.
5Lady Venomara
Whileall of the bosses in Astro Botpose a certain level of challenge, for most of them, once you know what to do, you won’t need too many attempts, but with how long (no pun intended) and varied the encounter with the giant Cobra, Lady Venomara, is, she ends up being the toughest boss to beat by far.
She’ll rapidly shrink the size of the stage you have to work with, throw out aggressive attacks that require precision use of thechicken jump abilityto dodge, and right at the end she’ll require fast-paced platforming to work all the way up her body to make the final blow.
4Crumble Rumble 5
World 5 - Feather Cluster
Relatively well hidden, you’ll have to keep a keen eye out in every Nebula of Astro Bot to find each of the five Crumble Rumble levels, but the hardest by far is the final incarnation. The gimmick of these levels is that Astro will have to survive the crumbling floor of the level while defeating each of the enemies present.
For the last level, this includes multiple fire-breathing enemies, and a meteor-spewing monster that requires precise use of the laser hover ability to send plummeting down. With all the aggressive enemies, and only one life to work with, you’ll likely need a good chunk of time dedicated to taking down this tricky trial.
3Retro Rampage 5
Like Crumble Rumble, the Retro Rampage levels are well hidden, and similarly, the final version is the hardest as well. What makes this takedown of the retro-themed enemies so tricky isn’t just the pure number of projectiles you’ll have to manage or the rapidly falling stage, but the power up you’re stuck with.
While the frog gloves are useful in earlier levels, here they feel like a hindrance, slowing down your standard attacks and limiting Astro’s manoeuvrability. With how speedy the projectiles these enemies throw at you are, the slow speed of the punches feels like a significant handicap.
2Splashing Sprints
World 4 - Camo Cosmos
Arguably the trickiest trial level you’ll have to face if you’re looking to complete every level in Astro Bot, Splashing Sprints requires precision platforming, while also trying to efficiently use the squirting duck item to create walkways for our fragile robot.
The problem with the duck item is that the platforms created sometimes feature small holes that can take Astro out with one small graze, which during slower levels is fine, but here it can feel tortuous.
1Great Master Challenge
Final Trial
While it’s debated whether Splashing Sprints or Great Master Challenge are harder, Great Master Challenge just clinches thanks to its length. This final hurdleto 101 percent completionof Astro Bot is a test of all of Astro’s standard platforming abilities, with no power ups available.
You’ll need to dedicate time to working out the best way to tackle each element of this level to ensure that your run is as efficient as possible. The main solace is that the level ends a little easier than the starting portion, but by that point the mounting pressure definitely compensates for the slightly lower challenge.
