Summary

Nintendoveteran andSuper Mariocreator Shigeru MIyamoto has revealed in a recent interview regarding the Nintendo Museum that he doesn’t want the company to be involved in any console wars.

For pretty much as long as video game consoles have been around, there have been “console wars”, a term used for when fans of a system argue against another. The longest-running example of this is PlayStation versus Xbox, a battle that has been going on for the past few generations and seems like it’ll never end.

Nintendo Switch 9.0.1

Funnily enough, even though the console wars are focused on Microsoft and Sony’s machines, they seem to completely ignore a contender that’s been outshining them in recent years - Nintendo. TheSwitchis one of the most popular consoles of all time, but it seems that most don’t even consider it when talking about competition, something that Nintendo is very happy to continue.

Nintendo Doesn’t Want A Part In The Console Wars

Over the past few days,Nintendo has started marketing its upcoming Nintendo Museum, a new museum (obviously) opening in Uji-Kokura that focuses on Nintendo’s history. As pointed out by Twitter user Stealth40k,Famitsu recently had the chance to speak with legendary Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamotoabout the creation of the exhibit and why it was created.

When asked what led to the Nintendo Museum becoming a thing, Miyamoto explained that it’s a long story but comes down to wanting others to understand why Nintendo creates things the way it does. This also leads Miyamoto to make an interesting point about the console wars and how the Big N wants nothing to do with it.

Miyamoto says that he hopes audiences understand Nintendo better from the museum and not involve them in the “game war” that’s focused on high specs and improving the performance of each console, something that Nintendo has never been focused on. After laughing about that, the Nintendo icon says that the company will continue to create things that are unique to itself.

I hope that they will see it and understand Nintendo. I hope that they will understand in this way and not involve Nintendo in the “game war” that is said to be about high specs and how to improve the performance of game consoles. - Shigeru Miyamoto

Considering how Nintendo’s output has always been focused on creating new and interesting things rather than going for power, it’s not a surprising statement from Miyamoto. It is a very definitive one that shares exactly how he feels about the situation, and is hopefully something more people will take to heart.
