Summary

Nintendo’s new alarm clock, Alarmo, has been making waves online because fans are excited by the novelty of characters from series like Mario and The Legend of Zelda rousing them from their gentle slumber.

Like a lot of high-tech alarm clocks these days, Alarmo has motion sensor technology that predicts when your body is preparing to wake up, gently pulling you out of sleep with calming music at a moment when you’re ending a sleep cycle, meaning you’ll wake up feeling refreshed rather than groggy.

However, like other alarm clocks or mobile applications with this feature, the technology doesn’t work correctly if there’s someone else in bed with you. This confuses the motion sensor and prevents it from being able to read the movements of an individual.

Nintendo Has Targeted Single People

This has led people, like X user devtesla, to joke that Nintendo made an alarm clock for single people. There’s a ‘traditional’ button-mode feature for people in this situation, where you can set a wake-up time and turn it off when it rings in the morning, as usual.

Obviously, there are plenty of reasons people may be alone in a bed even if they aren’t single. They may live apart from their partner, or one of them could be a notorious snorer. Or they could just be children, probably the real target market for Alarmo. There are also reasons you may be single and still sharing a bed, like if you have a furry friend who sleeps in bed. It’s all in good fun.

The motion sensor setting on Alarmo has multiple settings. The gentle mode is a calm rousing that doesn’t try and get you out of bed very urgently, while the steady mode will gradually get more intense if you don’t get out of bed and turn it off. This feature involves the screen showing a quieter character like Peach who will try and wake you up gently, but eventually Bowser will show up to loudly ensure you wake up.

Alarmo is currently available on the Nintendo Store for $99.99.

Nintendo Sound Clock Alarmo

Nintendo’s Alarmo is an alarm clock that tracks your movement while you sleep. You can choose from five games from which the clock will play music and sound effects, with each game having seven scenes to choose from. The Alarmo’s alarm will get more intense if you don’t get out of bed, and then stop automatically once you do get up.
