Summary
Lego Ideas are fan-submitted builds that, with enough backing, are considered for an official release. Last year,a No Man’s Sky set reached the 10,000 vote milestonewithsupport from Sean Murray himself, but unfortunately it didn’t make the cut. That hasn’t dissuaded the community, however, who are now pushing anotherLegoset for consideration.
BrickDesignNL has created a Radiant Pillar BC1, much like last year’s Idea, which you’ll no doubt recognise as the starter ship. The set even comes with an Explorer minifig, Multitool attachment, and Sentinel Drone, complete with a display stand to show it all off.
I have playedNo Man’s Skysince its release in 2016 […] I can’t put into words how amazing it has been to not only see the game grow, but also to see the heartwarming community expand. This model is a homage to the journey that the game and we as a community have made for more than seven years.
It currently has 2,972 supporters, with 306 days to go; that’s plenty of time. To boot, it has been making waves in the community over on Reddit, with a post highlighting the Idea garnering over 1,600 upvotes at the time of writing.
Fans Are Hopeful, But 10,000 Votes Doesn’t Guarantee That It’ll Happen
The comment section is filled with fans singing the design’s praises, hoping that it will be made into an official set after last year’s Idea was rejected.
Some have speculated that the first Radiant Pillar BC1 didn’t get approved because of licensing issues. However, with support from Sean Murray, that seems unlikely. The only times in which licensing has been a problem for Lego is if the IP is from a rival toy manufacturer like Hasbro, because it’s already working with a company on a crossover, or because of adult content such as with Shaun of the Dead and Firefly. ALegend of Zeldaset made it to the review phase and was rejected, but not because of copyright issues — it was actually due to the number of custom molds.
The issue is likely the competition. Reaching 10,000 votes moves a Lego Idea into the review phase in which it’s compared to all the other sets that recently hit the same milestone. Lego then decides which ones to make into official sets. Odds are, the voters just preferred the other submissions for whatever reason.
